The general strike in Minneapolis on Jan. 23rd showed how working people can drive out ICE and beat back Trump. Since then, Trump has attacked Iran and demolished the Voting Rights Act, and more attacks are coming. We need to build off of the Battle of Minneapolis and prepare for a general strike to bring down Trump.

Just like how the workers of Minneapolis kicked out ICE with a general strike, we need industrial action to fight Trump. We urgently need to escalate the fight back, and withholding our labor is one of the most powerful tools available to working people. Labor leaders have called for a nationwide day of "no work, no school, no shopping" on May 1st (May Day & International Workers Day), and we need to take concrete steps to get ready for the widest possible participation. 🕯️ On Thursday, Boston Socialist Alternative joined 60+ workers at the Jamaica Plain VA hospital vigil for Alex Pretti, the VA nurse murdered by ICE in Minneapolis.

🏥 A healthcare worker & Socialist Alternative member spoke about the importance of using workers’ collective power to stand up to ICE, like when Target workers in Minneapolis recently organized a sick out, forcing a store closure in the face of continued ICE activity.

✊ Organized grassroots actions like these are crucial to pushing back ICE nationwide, and have already forced the Trump administration to begin retreating in Minneapolis.

🚩 Socialist Alternative members are playing key roles in Minneapolis and in the wider anti-ICE movement in places like Cincinnati, Seattle, Philadelphia, and right here in Boston.

We were out yesterday at 500 person union rally where union members and workers from around Boston came to say "No to ICE" and stand in solidarity with the mass strike in Minneapolis on Friday.

In Minneapolis an inspiring crowd of tens of thousands shut down business as usual, closing hundreds of workplaces, schools, and taking over downtown Minneapolis and the airport. This action has already inspired workers across the country but it is clear that, with the murder of another person by ICE, we need to build a more sustained movement if we hope to defeat ICE once and for all.

At this meeting we will have a chance to talk about next steps for the struggle and how to bring the fighting lessons from Minneaplis to Boston.
