Massachusetts Association of School Committees MASC supports Massachusetts school leaders through legislative advocacy, policy support, professional development and superintendent searches.

MASC offers a wide range of programs and services, including professional development workshops, school policy development and Superintendent search services and new Superintendent job postings, alerts and analysis of new education legislation, education and school advocacy support, and also acts as an information clearinghouse. Through these and other services and resources, the Association provides important guidance and expertise to its members. Additionally, MASC serves to communicate the school committee perspective to government leadership, media, state and federal administrative agencies and other associations related to K-12 education and MA public schools. MASC also supports the MA Council of School Attorneys, the MA Council of School Committee Administrative Personnel and a number of subcommittees on various topics of importance to education leadership. MASC also hosts an annual conference with the MA Association of School Superintendents each fall, the MASC/MASS Annual Joint Conference, as well as an annual legislative advocacy at the State House in Boston, MASC's Day on the Hill.

On August 10, 2026, Governor Healey signed into law the Freedom to Read law, codifying parameters of library book selection and challenges. This new law requires the adoption of redrafted and new policies by Massachusetts school districts.

MASC shares the following model policies, drafted in consultation with Massachusetts Library System staff and with guidance by MASC General Counsel, to ensure district adherence to the law.

⏰ MEAL TICKET DEADLINE THIS FRIDAY!

Attending the 2026 MASC/M.A.S.S. Joint Conference? Don’t forget to add your meal tickets by this Friday, October 16!

Meal selections are made directly through the conference registration form. Already registered? If you need to add or remove a meal ticket, email [email protected] and we’ll update your registration.

📌 Important: After Friday’s deadline, meal counts will be finalized with the hotel. If you have a meal ticket on your registration that you no longer plan to use, we won’t be able to remove the charge after the deadline.

Make your selections before Friday so you’re all set for conference week!

We’re just under a month away from the 2026 MASC/MASS Joint Conference, and the October 11 hotel deadline is quickly approaching.

A quick update on room availability:

📍 DoubleTree by Hilton Boston North Shore
Our conference venue is sold out!

📍 Best Western Plus North Shore Hotel (booking link https://bit.ly/4zqlPwV)
Our overflow hotel, located approximately 5–10 minutes from the conference venue, still has rooms available for all nights, November 3–6.

⏰ The hotel room block closes October 11 at 11:59 p.m.

If you haven’t made your hotel reservation yet, now is the time! Book your room and make sure you have a place to stay for conference week.

4 weeks to go! The 2026 MASC/MASS Joint Conference is coming up November 4–6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston North Shore in Danvers.

Three days of professional development, networking, great speakers, and plenty of opportunities to connect with school committee members and education leaders from across the Commonwealth.

Important deadlines coming up:

The MASC Board of Directors is urging Governor Maura Healey not to opt Massachusetts into the federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program.

MASC has concerns about the potential diversion of federal education funding, the implications of using federal tax benefits for private education, and the impact on equity and access for students and public schools.

We also stand with our colleagues at the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents in opposing the program.

MASC is searching for its next Executive Director.

As many of you know, Glenn Koocher has announced his retirement after more than 25 years as MASC’s Executive Director. We are incredibly grateful for Glenn’s years of service to MASC and to school committees across Massachusetts, and we will miss him deeply.

The MASC Board has engaged The MH Group to assist with the search for our next Executive Director. The Board’s goal is to conduct a thorough search and hire a new Executive Director who will have an opportunity to overlap with Glenn before his retirement, allowing for a smooth transition and transfer of institutional knowledge.

The position is now posted, and we encourage you to share it with your networks.
