Multiple units from Boston EMS responded overnight to a challenging boat crash. In difficult conditions, including darkness and slippery shoreline rocks, EMTs located the scene and began patient care.
Working in close coordination with Massport Fire, crews carefully extricated four patients from the rocks. One critically injured patient was transported by an ALS ambulance to an area hospital, and three additional patients were transported by BLS ambulances.

Friday evening, Boston EMS Lieutenant Ed McCarthy was the first to arrive to a fire at an apartment building on Cummins Highway in Mattapan. Lt. McCarthy saw the smoke and ran inside to begin knocking on doors and helping multiple people, including children, to safety through smoke filled hallways.
Boston Fire arrived soon after and took over. Lieutenant McCarthy provided critical information to firefighters that several children were still inside. All made it out safely.
Excellent work, Lieutenant! We’re grateful for your quick thinking, steady leadership, and commitment to keeping City of Boston safe.

Boston EMS is proud to welcome Recruit Class 2026-1! Last week, 28 new recruits took their first steps into a challenging and rewarding journey, beginning months of hands-on training led by our exceptional Training Captains and Field Training Officers. In the weeks ahead, they’ll build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to deliver world-class emergency medical care to the people of Boston.
To close out their first full week, the class had the privilege of hearing from a remarkable group of Boston EMS retirees. Thank you to our retired members who returned to share their insight, lessons learned, and the kinds of stories you can only gather over a lifetime of service. We’re grateful for your continued connection to—and support of—the department.
