Multiple units from Boston EMS responded overnight to a challenging boat crash. In difficult conditions, including darkness and slippery shoreline rocks, EMTs located the scene and began patient care.

Working in close coordination with Massport Fire, crews carefully extricated four patients from the rocks. One critically injured patient was transported by an ALS ambulance to an area hospital, and three additional patients were transported by BLS ambulances.

Boston EMS was honored to host the Opening Ceremony for the East Coast Route of the 2026 National EMS Memorial Bike Ride on Saturday. Now in its 26th year, this powerful tradition began right here in Boston, created by members of Boston EMS to remember and celebrate those in our profession who gave everything in service to others.

This year’s ride honors 89 EMS providers from 27 states—individuals whose dedication, sacrifice, and impact continue to inspire their communities and the colleagues who ride in their memory. Across the country, riders will collectively travel more than 1,900 miles through 17 states and Washington, D.C., carrying their stories and legacies with them. Thank you to all the riders taking part in this meaningful journey. Wishing you a safe, strong, and inspiring ride ahead.

Friday evening, Boston EMS Lieutenant Ed McCarthy was the first to arrive to a fire at an apartment building on Cummins Highway in Mattapan. Lt. McCarthy saw the smoke and ran inside to begin knocking on doors and helping multiple people, including children, to safety through smoke filled hallways.

Boston Fire arrived soon after and took over. Lieutenant McCarthy provided critical information to firefighters that several children were still inside. All made it out safely.

Excellent work, Lieutenant! We’re grateful for your quick thinking, steady leadership, and commitment to keeping City of Boston safe.

Boston EMS is proud to welcome Recruit Class 2026-1! Last week, 28 new recruits took their first steps into a challenging and rewarding journey, beginning months of hands-on training led by our exceptional Training Captains and Field Training Officers. In the weeks ahead, they’ll build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to deliver world-class emergency medical care to the people of Boston.

To close out their first full week, the class had the privilege of hearing from a remarkable group of Boston EMS retirees. Thank you to our retired members who returned to share their insight, lessons learned, and the kinds of stories you can only gather over a lifetime of service. We’re grateful for your continued connection to—and support of—the department.

Good luck to all the runners in the 130th Boston Marathon!

More than 100 Boston EMS EMTs and Paramedics are positioned along the course, in medical tents, and at the Finish Line. You’ll see our teams on bikes, on foot, in carts, and in gators, moving quickly through the crowds to deliver care wherever it’s needed. We’ve added staffing in the Field, at Dispatch, and across Special Operations to ensure seamless coverage citywide.

Months of planning led to this moment. We’re in place, we’re prepared—and we’re ready.

After months of planning, final preparations are underway for the 130th Boston Marathon. This morning, Chief Hooley joined Mayor Wu, the Boston Athletic Association, and our City, State, and Federal public safety partners to discuss this year’s plans to keep everyone safe.

Boston EMS will have additional medical coverage in place to ensure uninterrupted service across all neighborhoods—and of course along the Marathon route. Thank you to our Special Operations team for their hard work heading into race weekend, and best of luck to all the runners!
