This Women’s History Month, we proudly celebrate the leadership, dedication, and historic achievements of two remarkable women at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD): Chair Sunila Thomas George (right) and Commissioner Christina Brown (left).
Chair George’s journey with the MCAD is nothing short of extraordinary. Beginning as an intern in our Springfield office, she has served in nearly every role within the agency through her decades of service, rising through the ranks with an unwavering commitment to justice. Today, she stands as the longest-serving Chair in MCAD history, a testament to her enduring contribution and passion for upholding civil rights in the Commonwealth.
This month the MCAD welcomed our newest Commissioner, Christina Brown, whose appointment marks a new chapter for the Commission. As the final of four per diem commissioners appointed following the MCAD’s January 1, 2026 statutory changes, Commissioner Brown represents both progress and the continued evolution of our mission. An experienced nonprofit C-suite leader and change agent, she brings more than 30 years of work in education and mission-driven organizations, including her current role as Chief Impact Officer at ELEducation. Her deep commitment to access and equity, along with her expertise in advancing strategic priorities, will be a powerful asset to the Commission.
Chair George and Commissioner Brown, together with their fellow MCAD commissioners and staff, are laying the groundwork for continued progress in a defining year!

In honor of Black History Month, the had the privilege of visiting the Museum of African American History - Boston and Nantucket, just steps from our Boston office. Thanks to the incredible museum guides, we learned about the early Black neighborhood of Beacon Hill and the trailblazers who helped lay the foundation for civil and human rights activism within the walls of the historic African Meeting House.
From stories of resilience and community building to the lasting impact of education led by Black Bostonians, we're grateful for the opportunity to reflect on the triumphs and challenges that continue to inform our work today.
