On Memorial Day each year we mourn and honor our deceased service men and women and we observe the National Moment of Remembrance.

Honoring all these brave men and women who have protected our country at the cost of their lives is the least we can do to show our gratitude for their sacrifices. At 3:00P.M., across our great country all Americans are to pause for a duration of one minute to remember those military members who have died to protect us.

The BPSOF extends its deepest condolences to the men and women of the Boston Fire Department and to the family of Boston Firefighter Robert Kilduff, Jr., who died in the line of duty. Rest in Peace.

Remembering the passing of Boston Police Sergeant John F. Montague who died as a result of a pulmonary embolism on May 24, 1929. Sergeant Montague participated in a mandatory strength test as part of promotion examination, after the test Sergeant Montague complained that he felt a snap in his back after using the lifting machine. Sergeant Montague collapsed when he arrived home and died. Sergeant Montague's name is etched on the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. along with being on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. On this day, we pay tribute the officers who have died, or have been disabled, in the line of duty. Please think about these brave men and women and their sacrifices as you go about your day.

Commemorating the 38th Annual Candle light vigil which is held each year during National Police Week in Washington D.C. Each year hundreds of officers have died in the line of duty. Their names are read aloud during the the candlelight vigil at 8:00PM to memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The BPSOF wishes a happy Mother's Day to all the law enforcement officers who are also mothers! It takes a special kind of strength and dedication to balance the demands of both roles. Thank you for everything you do!

The BPSOF extends its deepest condolences on the Active Duty passing of Massachusetts State Trooper Kevin Trainor. Our hearts and prayers go out to Trooper Trainor’s family and loved ones along with the Massachusetts State Police.

Remembering the passing of Boston Police Captain Hugh J. Lee, who died in the line of duty 107 years ago. On May 3, 1919, Captain Lee died of a heart attack attempting to suppress rioters in Roxbury. Captain Lee was a 30-year veteran of the Department and was laid to rest in Dorchester. Captain Lee's name is engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall in Washington, DC. He is also listed on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston. He also has a Hero sign posted at the old District 9 Station, 409 Roxbury Street in Roxbury to forever honor his memory.

BPSOF commends our members along with the detectives, police officers & civilians who worked the marathon today for ensuring a safe day for the marathon runners, their families and the citizens who came to watch.

The BPSOF mourns the loss of Active Duty Boston Police Officer Scott J. MacIsaac. Our thoughts are with his family, his fellow brothers and sisters in the Department and his friends.
