The mission of The Friends is to create public support for expanding programs and to intensify community awareness and use of the library.
The North End Branch's adult fiction collection offers the latest best-sellers, romances, mysteries, classics, large-print fiction, and audiobook CDs. The reference collection includes encyclopedias, specialized dictionaries, atlases and foreign-language dictionaries. Join us on Wednesday, April 16th, at 6:00PM to hear about "The Battalion Artist: A Navy Seabee's Sketchbook of War in the South Pacific, 1943ā1945" by the book creators: Nancy Bellantoni, Janice Blake, and Jean Cannon.
"The Battalion Artist explores the three years, three months, and three days of Nat Bellantoniās life on the Pacific front in World War II. He had known since childhood that he wanted to beāthat he in fact wasāan artist. When he packed his seabag and took leave of his family and his sweetheart to go to war, he knew that the best way to manage the narrative of his life and to cope with the ups and downs of his feelings was to create imagesāvisual records that spoke of what he felt, as well as what he saw."
