Forty years ago today, in the early morning hours, Officer Dana was shot during a traffic stop in Milton .

Officer Dana was transported to Milton hospital in an ambulance driven by his newlywed wife ; Charlotte, a Milton officer.

Officer Dana succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Throughout the day and night an extensive search for the suspect was conducted by Metro and Boston police.

During the early morning hours of the 26th the suspect; Richard Best, was located at an apartment in Roxbury. Best took his own life instead of surrendering to officers.

Bobby gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve the citizens of the Commonwealth.
