“The MBTA is excited to welcome thousands of visitors to the Commonwealth for this summer’s MA250, SailBoston, and World Cup special events,” said Interim Secretary of Transportation and MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng. “These special edition CharlieCards – featuring photos of iconic Boston landmarks like the Boston Public Library, the USS Constitution, and our own South Station – are another way we’re sharing in the celebrations with the rest of the region. Designed by our Customer Experience Design Lead in collaboration with our Fares team, the collectible cards are a fun way for both riders and visitors to explore the city, discover new destinations, and commemorate their travels. We hope they add a little extra enjoyment to every journey while showcasing the many experiences that make Boston and Massachusetts such a remarkable place to visit and explore.”

For , we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to delivering safe public transit. Every day, the safety of our riders, employees, and communities is our duty and priority.
Today, MassDOT Interim Secretary and MBTA General Manager Phil Eng joined Governor Maura Healey , state and Town of Foxborough, MA officials, The Kraft Group CEO Robert Kraft, and stakeholders to celebrate the completion of upgrades to MBTA Commuter Rail Foxboro station. The new permanent, accessible high-level platform, along with a temporary high-level platform, allows for increased capacity to support World Cup crowds and easier boarding to support both daily commuters and event attendees. The project was completed in less than one year, marking the fastest permanent station construction project in MBTA history.

Today, the MBTA Board of Directors approved our FY2027-2031 Capital Investment Plan (CIP), which includes more than 660 projects with a programmed spend of $10.3 billion over the next five years. The CIP aims to deliver meaningful results for our riders today while laying the groundwork for tomorrow.

Orange Line Type 12 Cars at Sullivan Square - c.2004. The Type 12 Orange Line cars were manufactured by Hawker-Siddeley between 1979-1981. The set of 120 cars ran in service until 2022. Sullivan Square station first opened as an elevated station on June 10, 1901, serving as the terminal for the Charlestown Elevated. The subway station as we know it today was opened on April 7, 1975 as part of the Haymarket North Extension.
