🌧️ Strong stormwater management starts with partnership!

➡️ Last week, EPA New England Regional Administrator Mark Sanborn joined partners from across New England in Natick, MA, for the 4th annual Environmental Business Council Stormwater Summit.

💧 RA Sanborn highlighted how EPA is working to address aging infrastructure, strengthen MS4 (municipal stormwater) permitting, support compliance, and invest in resilient water systems. Tackling these challenges requires collaboration with states and municipalities throughout the region.

💭 ? EPA regulates stormwater discharges from many sources: municipalities, construction activities, and industrial activities. While most states are authorized to implement the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program, EPA is the permitting authority for NPDES in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. 🤝 Keeping communities safe!

🛠️ Recently, EPA staff installed new signs, which included seafood consumption information in popular fishing locations around Dartmouth, Massachusetts. These signs are meant to help educate the community about the risks of PCB contamination in New Bedford Harbor.

🔍 Up close: These new signs display QR codes that can direct community members to information in Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, and Vietnamese.

What’s the buzz on fish? 🐟

➡️ Last month, lab staff joined the NH Department of Environmental Services New Hampshire Instream Flow Program for electrofishing surveys on the Pemigewasset and Ashuelot Rivers.

🛥️The team collected, identified, measured, and assessed fish before safely releasing them back into the rivers. This monitoring helps track fish communities at state-designated sites and supports long-term efforts to protect New Hampshire’s rivers and aquatic resources.
