Last month, MassDEP joined colleagues from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and the Attorney General’s Office for a powerful ceremony celebrating the state's recognition of the Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe.

Held in Plymouth’s historic 1820 courtroom at Town Hall, the gathering marked an important moment for Indigenous sovereignty and the continued presence of Tribal Nations in Massachusetts.

On Saturday, May 9, MassDEP held an open house in Dartmouth for Bliss Corner residents to learn more about the Raised Garden project. Since 2018, MassDEP has been investigating the historic dumping of waste material in the Bliss Corner neighborhood. MassDEP
is working with the EPA to clean up the soil, and with the support of State Representative Chris Markey, MassDEP launched the Raised Garden project to provide residents with free raised garden beds.

These raised garden beds will allow residents to grow fresh vegetables without the risk of contaminated ground soil. If you are a Bliss Corner resident and want to learn more, contact us at [email protected].
