A field’s opening day gets the photos. What happens in year eight deserves questions, too.

For this Tech Thursday, let’s talk about a question worth asking before a synthetic turf field is built:
“How will we know it’s still performing years from now?”

A field experiences seasons of practices, games, weather, and maintenance. An installation-day test provides a starting point. Ongoing testing helps tell the rest of the story.

When evaluating a field, ask:
🔍 What performance measurements were recorded when it opened?
📋 How often will the complete system be tested?
📈 How will results be compared over time?
🛠️ What findings will trigger maintenance or further evaluation?

At Brock, our focus extends beyond the ribbon cutting. It’s why we study impact performance, durability, and how the components beneath the turf work together over time.

Because the child stepping onto a field eight years from now deserves the same thoughtful attention as the first athlete who played on it.

You know their jersey number. Their favorite position. The look on their face when they spot you on the sidelines.

As a parent, you put so much care into helping your child enjoy the game. You deserve to understand the field they’re playing on, too.

What’s beneath the turf? What infill surrounds their cleats? How is the surface tested—and how does it perform as it ages?
You don’t need to be a field designer to ask thoughtful questions. Your interest can help bring athlete well-being into conversations about the places children practice, compete, and grow.

That’s why we created the Parent’s Field Guide on our new website: a resource to help families understand synthetic turf systems and take part in those conversations with confidence.

Because every athlete on that field is someone’s whole world. 💚

Testimonial Tuesday | Southeast Whitfield High School

How does a field feel and play after installation? At Southeast Whitfield High School in Dalton, Georgia, Athletic Director Stephen Stacy points to two things he’s noticed: the field feels cooler than rubber infill fields he’s experienced, and its speed and ball play feel natural.

The field features Brock SP17XL and BrockFILL and was completed in August 2023 with Sports Turf Company, Inc. and AstroTurf.

Thank you, Stephen, for sharing your experience—and to everyone who helped bring this field to the Raiders!

Simplify Playground Installations with Brock Transition Wedges.

Brock Transition Wedges (TW1200) are designed to simplify playground shock pad height transitions between PLAY80, PLAY50, and PBYSR systems. These wedges help installation crews maintain an ADA-compliant slope while reducing onsite modifications, saving time in the field, and improving overall installation efficiency.

✔️Maintains an ADA-compliant 1:13.7 slope
✔️Built for transitions across Brock playground systems
✔️Minimizes complicated onsite modifications
✔️Supports smoother installation and shipping logistics

Brock Transition Wedges make it easier to manage below-surface transitions so playground installations stay efficient, consistent, and well planned from the ground up.

🏈 FIELD OF THE WEEK FRIDAY: Northwestern University | Ryan Fieldhouse

Big Ten ambition. A spectacular lakefront setting. And a foundation built for the work behind every game.

This week, we’re spotlighting Wilson Field inside Northwestern University’s Ryan Fieldhouse in Evanston, Illinois. With its sweeping roof and views of Lake Michigan, this indoor facility brings football, soccer, lacrosse, and other athletic activities together under one roof.

A founding member of the Big Ten, Northwestern combines a proud athletic tradition with academic excellence. And the Wildcats have momentum this fall: Northwestern football is 4–1 following a 45–14 homecoming victory over Ball State.

Behind those game-day moments are countless hours of preparation—and the surfaces athletes train on matter.

At Ryan Fieldhouse, Brock PowerBase YSR sits beneath the FieldTurf surface, making the shock pad an integral part of this multipurpose field system.

Field size: 98,870 square feet | Turf and installation: FieldTurf | Shock pad: Brock PowerBase YSR | Designer: SmithGroupJJR

Why include a shock pad beneath synthetic turf? A shock pad provides an engineered layer for impact absorption beneath the playing surface, helping project teams address performance as part of the complete field system. Learn more at https://na2.hubs.ly/H08qmnj0

Proud to be part of the foundation supporting the Wildcats’ preparation. Go ’Cats! 💜

💡 TECH THURSDAY: What if you could feel the game unfold?

The anticipation. The movement. The moment a play comes together. Technology is giving blind and low-vision fans another way to experience the action—through touch.

OneCourt transforms gameplay data into trackable vibrations on a tactile device, allowing fans to follow the action with their fingertips. It brings a spatial dimension to the experience: a way to understand where the play is moving and feel more connected to the game.

The technology has supported basketball, baseball, soccer, and football, opening new possibilities for fans in the stands and beyond.

At Brock USA, we believe the people who experience sports should be at the center of innovation. From the surfaces athletes play on to the technology that welcomes more fans into the action, thoughtful design can make a meaningful difference.

👏 A spotlight on OneCourt for helping make sports more accessible—one play at a time.

A field is never just a field.

It’s where a nervous freshman finds their confidence. Where teammates become friends. Where a child tries something new—and asks to do it again.
At Brock USA, those moments give our work meaning.

We engineer sports shock pads, playground pads, and BrockFILL organic infill. But what motivates us is the people who use those spaces: the athletes giving their all, the kids discovering play, and the communities gathering to cheer them on.

Our work sits beneath the turf and among its fibers. You may never notice it during a game or a trip to the playground, but we put care into every layer.
Because behind every project are people counting on that space to be a place to learn, grow, and belong.

That’s who we build for. Learn more about Brock USA at: https://na2.hubs.ly/H08mnDv0

Testimonial Tuesday | Shorecrest Preparatory School

When Shorecrest’s new field was installed, Athletic Director Anthony McCall thought heat might be an issue. After practicing on it during the summer, he said its feel was comparable to the natural grass field the team had used.

“We’ve enjoyed this product—really great surface—and I would recommend it to anyone who’s installing a turf field.”

We’re proud to be part of this project alongside SCG Fields, LLC and Shaw Sports Turf.

Congratulations to Shorecrest Preparatory School and the Chargers on your new field! ⚡🏈

One Family’s Big Win: A Place for Their Kids to Play Soccer, Right at Home

Brock partnered with Great American Green and Tailor Made Grass to provide the mini-pitch soccer experience at Decatur WatchFest '26, one of Atlanta‘s most popular World Cup watch parties.

One lucky family won a backyard turf soccer field of their own, featuring Brock PowerBase YSR shock pad to reduce the likelihood of injuries, and BrockFILL organic infill for a better playing surface that reduces the temperature of the field.

Aiden and Quinn are avid soccer players who often show off their moves in their front yard. They also attended nearly every FIFA watch party at Decatur Square.
