Montana DPHHS is reporting a pediatric death from invasive Hib infection. Our hearts are with the child’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

While Hib disease is uncommon, it can cause serious, life-threatening infections, including meningitis and bloodstream infections. Vaccination is the best way to help protect young children. Hib is a vaccine-preventable disease, and vaccination is recommended beginning at 2 months of age, with additional doses given based on the vaccine brand.

The CDC recommends Hib vaccination for children under age 5. If you are unsure whether your child is up to date, contact your health care provider or Jefferson County Health Department at 406-225-4007.
