Growing Gardens is one of the 2026 Circular Economy Fund Recipients!

They were awarded $13,050 to reduce single-use plastics in their greenhouses. They purchased reusable propagation trays to replace disposable plastic trays that are not recyclable. A rugged terrain pallet jack was purchased so they could order soil in reusable totes rather than individual bags of soil.

With these changes, they increased their plant production by 30%. In their grant report, Site Director Lauren Kelso said, "This was an incredible success for us- allowing us to expand our plant sale fundraiser, seedling donation program and amount of produce grown on our farms for donation- all while decreasing our use of single-use plastic. "

In 2025, we completed major upgrades at the Nederland and Allenspark Transfer Stations. These upgrades give mountain residents safer, more accessible, and more sustainable recycling and waste-diversion options.

Improvements include a new re-use barn, ADA ramps and parking, an ADA bathroom, on-site food scrap composting, polystyrene foam collection, and weather-safe scrap metal access.

These upgrades earned us a National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award, recognizing it as a standout example of innovation and community impact in local government. County Commissioners presented the award to some of our staff at Boulder County's NACo Award Celebration last week.

The Resource Conservation Division recently conducted a survey at the recycling center drop-off lot to find out who's using the site, how many people are coming, and how much material they're bringing. Over 30 days, 100 visitors were interviewed who brought more than 2,000 pounds of material.

The data we received will help us determine future education and outreach opportunities to help people in our community recycle even more material efficiently and effectively.

Let us introduce ourselves.
The Resource Conservation Division consists of dedicated and enthusiastic Boulder County employees.

We help residents divert their waste from the landfill in a variety of ways.

We have folks at the Boulder County Recycling Center, the Hazardous Materials Management Facility, the Nederland Transfer Station, and the Allenspark Transfer Station.

Our mission and work get us out and into the community as often as possible.

Waste diversion can be challenging. We hope to make it a little easier so you can feel good about reducing, reusing, and recycling.
