Today is Overdose Awareness Day

Here in Wood County, we continue to see how substance use impacts families, neighborhoods, and support systems. While this challenge evolves each year, the need for compassion, awareness, and coordinated action remains as urgent as ever.
At the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office, we are committed to strengthening prevention efforts by working closely with community partners, expanding early intervention, supporting evidence based approaches, and promoting pathways to treatment and long term recovery. Our focus is on fostering hope, connection, and safety for everyone in our community.

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR!

🎨📅 The 38th Annual Safety Kids Calendar Contest is underway! 📅🎨

Calling all 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in Wood County!

Students are invited to get creative and create a drawing based on one of this year’s six safety topics. A total of 24 entries will be selected to appear in the 2027 Safety Kids Calendar, which will be distributed throughout Wood County.

📝 Deadline to submit: Friday, September 18, 2026

We encourage schools, teachers, parents, and students to help spread the word so every eligible student has an opportunity to participate!

We can’t wait to see your drawings! 🎨

Today, the Ability Center visited our office to recertify Norie as a Facility Dog—and we couldn’t be more proud! 🐾

Norie works hard, and we put a lot of time and care into making sure she stays in tip-top shape and is ready to do her very best for everyone she works with. Did you know Norie knows more than 20 different cues, including one of our favorites: giving hugs?

She absolutely loves her job, and we’re so grateful to have the opportunity to share her with our community and everyone who works with our office. We’re excited to see all the comfort, connection, and smiles she’ll continue to bring!

Are you feeling like summer flew by and suddenly it's back to school season? We can't believe it either! We did have a great time at the Back to School Trunk or Treat event and it was fun to see so many families excited about the year ahead! Norie was so happy to get so many pets and hugs from everyone. Hope you all have a great school year!

The crimes that these boosters are committing are not victimless. The Northwest Ohio Organized Retail Crime Task Force is doing great work in making our communities safer. We are very proud to work with them and bring justice for these offenses.
