🙏 Salvation Army Boyertown Corps welcomes new leaders, Captains Derek and Betty Ellen Barrett
The Salvation Army's Boyertown Corps has new Corps Officers. Captains Derek and Betty Ellen Barrett now lead the corps' church, worship services, social service programs, youth ministry and volunteers.
Both have deep roots in the organization. Derek grew up as the son and grandson of Salvation Army officers, and Betty Ellen spent about 12 years in its Service Extension Department after first getting involved through Camp Ladore in the Poconos. They started as envoys in State College in 2014, were commissioned as officers in 2019, and served in Philadelphia's Roxborough Corps and in Pottsville before coming to Boyertown.
The Boyertown Corps serves roughly 26,000 people a year. It runs a soup kitchen on Mondays and Tuesdays, a food pantry on Thursdays and Fridays, and the weekly Club 316 youth program. The Barretts say they want to grow those programs, add things like life-skills classes for kids and teens, and build up the congregation.
