ALERT: Prescribed Fire Activity June 9-12, 2026

Fire management officials at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) are planning to conduct a prescribed burn for habitat improvement and invasive species management. The prescribed burn will take place on 6,500 acres on the southwest area within the Refuge interior.

Prescribed burning operations will be conducted starting today, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, through Friday, June 12, 2026 as weather conditions dictate. Smoke will be readily visible from areas in western Palm Beach County. Wind direction is predicted to carry smoke away from populated areas.

NOTICE: Water will be shut off in Refuge buildings starting at 9 am tomorrow, May 22, 2026. The outdoor bathrooms behind the visitor center will be locked. A portable toilet is available at the Lee Rd boat ramp. This maintenance is crucial to the upkeep the water well on the Refuge because we are not connected to county water lines.
