Last week, amidst kids in the middle of football practice, we got to celebrate the opening of two new synthetic turf fields at the Bozeman Sports Park. These fields are already being used, and it was a wonderful example of the immediate power of a new space to play.

Deputy Mayor Douglas Fischer spoke on the important role sports play in our lives during the ribbon-cutting, saying, "These parks bring infrastructure that allow our kids to learn what it is to touch excellence, to chase after a state title, to be part of a team, to be something that's much larger than themselves. That's the other lesson I learned from sitting on the School Board is how many kids but not for sports would not be in school."

In a time when our fields are booked all hours of the day, these new fields bring much needed space to our community. Check them out next time you're by Gallatin High!

Heavy snow has caused widespread tree damage across Bozeman. Our Forestry Division is responding to storm-related hazards alongside other city departments to protect public safety.

Crews are starting in the downtown corridor and working outward across the community, prioritizing dangerous hanging limbs and other immediate hazards.

Please be aware that we have received more than 200 emails and voicemails related to storm damage. We appreciate the concern and are currently focusing all of our efforts on addressing public safety hazards. We’ll do our best to respond to these messages afterwards. Cleanup of downed branches in areas deemed safe may be delayed as crews prioritize more dangerous hazards.

Your safety matters:
1. Do not attempt to remove broken or hanging limbs yourself. Hidden hazards, including downed power lines, may be present. Call 911 immediately if you encounter a downed power line.
2. Use caution when walking beneath trees. Additional limbs may fall without warning.
Forestry clears public areas only. Please take branches from private property to the Bozeman Convenience Site rather than piling them on the boulevard, which slows community cleanup.
3. Heavy snow can damage even healthy trees. Please give our crews time to work safely and prioritize the most dangerous areas first.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our teams work to make Bozeman safe.

For more information on storm damage and emergency response visit the Forestry Division website at https://www.bozemanmt.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/forestry/tree-maintenance.
