🔥 Planned Prescribed Fire on the Beartooth Ranger District 🔥

The Beartooth Ranger District plans to conduct a 10‑acre prescribed fire the week of October 26, with ignitions beginning as early as Monday.

📍 Located east of Highway 212 near mile marker 63, between Highway 212 and Rock Creek, south of Red Lodge.

⛅ Fire crews will only proceed if weather conditions support safe and effective burning. Personnel will monitor weather, fire behavior, and smoke throughout the operation. The area will remain staffed and patrolled by the Beartooth Ranger District.

💨 Smoke impacts should be expected along Highway 212 and East Side Road, especially during active ignition periods and overnight when smoke may settle in low‑lying areas. Motorists traveling near the prescribed fire area may experience brief delays while crews are working, although no highway closures are anticipated. Traffic control personnel and warning signs will be in place. Please use caution, reduce speeds, and be aware that residual smoke may remain visible for several days as heavier fuels continue to consume.

🌱 This prescribed fire is part of the Rock Creek Ecotonal Project, which focuses on restoring ecotonal landscapes such as meadows, aspen stands, and pine savannas.
