Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

As part of Fire Prevention Week, the Bozeman Fire Department is sharing tips from the National Fire Protection Association. This year's theme is everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Are you a fan of Coffee with a Commissioner? We’re brewing up something new: Coffee with City Staff! We’re holding monthly coffee dates for the next few months with various departments to help answer questions and introduce you to the people who help make our city run.

The first in our Coffee series is our amazing Fire Department. Want to hear more about what our response times are looking like, and what’s on the horizon for our department? What about fire safety and whether it’s really ok to be using that frayed phone cord? How many calls do we respond to that DON’T involve actual fire?

Join us on Tuesday, October 13, from 9 AM to 11 AM at the Daily (1203 N Rouse Ave ) to get questions like these answered and more. We look forward to seeing you there!

At approximately 4:22 p.m. on Sept. 10, Bozeman Fire was dispatched to a reported chimney fire at 29 E Main Street. Crews arrived on scene and found a small fire in an oven that had extended to the chimney.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire and remained on scene to ensure the fire had not extended into void spaces in the building.

“Bozeman Fire would like to thank Bozeman Police, AMR, Central Valley Fire, Hyalite Fire, Northwestern Energy and local business owners for their help and cooperation during the event,” said Bozeman Deputy Chief of Operations James Short.
