Thank you Rep. Steele for all you do for our communities! We are grateful!
I don’t think I’ve written about this on social media.
Many years ago, I found myself in a position that I never imagined, needing to rely on first repsonders to come to the aid of me and one of my children who was a newborn, at the time.
We were in a very precarious situation. Didn’t know how to get out on our own.
In the distance, the sound of sirens.
It was volunteer fire fighters who showed up.
Helped us to safety.
Who were these people?
Truthfully, I hadn’t given firefighters much thought before that night. My husband and I were busy raising kids, working, living life.
But I started to awaken to what these people were doing. They were volunteers! Showing up day after day, night after night, time away from their families, training, preparing, being ready. And when the call comes, dropping everything and running to help. At all costs.
Really, think about that. Do you realize what your fire fighters are doing for you? Risking their lives, for yours.
Incredible.
While I hold this seat, I’m going to talk a lot about firefighters. The very least I can do is use my platform to shine a light on these people.
And when a fire company in my district needs something, I’m going to fight really damn hard for the funding to make it happen.
Tonight I got to stop by to see my friends at Pioneer Hose. Some of them are interior firefighters, some drive the trucks, some just help with keeping the station running. All play a vital role.
Happy, happy to share the news with them that I was able to secure a nice, big grant to fix the aging heating system in their building!
Gives me comfort that they’ll be warm while they wait.
Your fight fighters need a lot more than I can do as a State Rep. They need your emotional support and they need your financial support, too. Recognize them when you see them. Thank them. And give when you can.
They’re worthy people. We are immensely lucky to have them. 💗
