This week, Crime Prevention Officer Smith has been visiting with Braham School students and talking about the importance of using all forms of the internet safely and wisely.
From social media and Snapchat to gaming, texting, AI, and other online platforms, the internet is a big part of our students’ everyday lives. Our goal isn’t to scare kids away from technology, it’s to give them the knowledge and confidence to make safe choices while using it.
Students were reminded to:
🔹 Think before you post, send, or share.
🔹 Protect personal information, passwords, and location.
🔹 Remember that people online may not always be who they claim to be.
🔹 Never feel pressured to send photos, videos, money, or personal information.
🔹 Block and report accounts that make them uncomfortable.
🔹 Save messages or screenshots when something concerning happens.
🔹 Tell a trusted adult when something online doesn’t feel right.
Most importantly, asking for help is always the right choice. Parents and caregivers can help by keeping conversations about online activity open and ongoing.

If a child is being threatened, blackmailed, or pressured for sexual images online, do not delete the messages or account. Report the account, preserve the information, and contact a trusted adult or law enforcement. NCMEC https://www.missingkids.org/netsmartz/home also provides resources for reporting online child exploitation and assistance with removing explicit images of minors.
Talk about it. Report it. Ask for help. Stay safe online.
