We need your help!

Someone stole a Viking statue right off a tombstone that this family has owned for more than 40 years. This is more than just a stolen item; it holds decades of memories and sentimental value. Stolen from the Garrison Cemetery off the headstone.

The family is going through an incredibly difficult time. His wife has dementia and is nearing the end of her life, making the loss of this meaningful piece even more heartbreaking.

If you know anything about this theft or have seen the Viking statue, please reach out to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office. Even the smallest piece of information could help us bring it back to the family.

Let’s come together as a community and help return this special piece to where it belongs.

Saturday my son had a college football game in Duluth and came out with the win. Then, somewhere on the ride back to Fargo, I got a text from him saying they were stuck in a ditch in Barrows? I asked how did you end up in Barrows? He said the driver was following the GPS.
Now, as someone who drives around Crow Wing County, I should have known better. With all the road construction around Brainerd this summer, maybe the GPS finally just gave up and started making things up.
The best part of the night was hearing that our local deputy stopped to check on the team and offered support while they waited for help. It's a good reminder that in small-town Minnesota, when a busload of football players ends up somewhere they probably shouldn't be, someone is always looking out for them. Thanks to Deputy Justin Theising for representing us well.
So the final score looked something like this:
✅ Football Team: Win
✅ Deputy: MVP
✅ Tow Truck Clutch Performance
❌ GPS: Under Review
The boys won the game, made an unexpected stop in a ditch, got a lesson in Minnesota geography, and eventually made it home safely.
Meanwhile, that GPS may have a future with the Vikings. It had a clear path to the destination, got confused halfway through, and somehow ended up in the ditch.

For the past several years, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office has enjoyed hosting a Halloween event for our community. We want to let families know that we will not be holding the event this year.

With Halloween falling on a Saturday and other factors affecting this year’s plans, we’ve decided to take a break. We appreciate everyone who has joined us over the years. We may bring the event back in the future, and we’ll share an update if we do.
