Isaias update: Rankin County is under a Level 2 (Elevated) wind threat from tonight through Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Jackson expects sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph across Brandon, Flowood, Pearl, Richland, Florence, and the rest of Rankin County. Downed trees and power lines are likely, and travel will be hazardous for high-profile vehicles like box trucks, trailers, and RVs. The strongest winds (Level 3) are expected farther east, near Philadelphia and Meridian.

The flash flood threat is low for Rankin County, with the higher risk over east Mississippi. If you come to a flooded road, Turn Around, Don't Drown.

What to do now:
Secure or bring in loose outdoor items like trash cans, patio furniture, and decorations.
Charge phones and keep flashlights handy in case the power goes out.
Stay away from downed power lines and report them to your power company.
Have more than one way to get weather warnings.

We will share updates if conditions change for Rankin County.

Weather Update from Rankin County Emergency Operations and US National Weather Service Jackson Mississippi as of 10/08/26 10 AM

Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast late Friday and weaken as it moves inland near the Mississippi/Alabama border. Even well inland, Rankin County, including Brandon, Flowood, Pearl, Richland, and Florence, should prepare for impacts Friday night into Saturday.

NWS Jackson has Rankin County under a Level 2 (Elevated) wind threat. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible, mainly Friday night and Saturday. Downed trees and power lines are possible, and travel may be difficult for high-profile vehicles.

We are also under a Level 1 (Limited) flash flood threat Friday night through Saturday night. Two to four inches of rain could fall in a short time, which may cause localized flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

It’s that time of year again, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome everyone back for our annual Boston Butt Fundraiser!

For years, the Langford Volunteer Fire Department has proudly carried on this hometown tradition—slow-cooking our famous Boston Butts to perfection, just the way our community loves them.

This isn’t just about great food—it’s about neighbors coming together, supporting local firefighters, and celebrating the spirit of Langford. Every purchase helps our firefighters continue serving and protecting our community, and every bite reminds us why this tradition means so much.

Mark your calendars and join us for another delicious year! Boston Butts will be hot off the smoker and ready for pickup on Friday, December 11, 2026 from 12pm-6pm and Saturday, December 12, 2026 from 8am- 3pm.

Fire safety starts early! 🔥

This morning, Langford Firefighters visited Oakdale Elementary School to teach students how to stay safe, including Stop, Drop & Roll and the importance of smoke alarms. We're proud to support our community's youngest members.

Thank you, Oakdale! ❤️🚒

At 9:59pm Sunday evening, Langford crews were called out to an active attic fire on Luckney Road. Upon arrival, we found heavy smoke conditions and active fire showing over the garage. Flowood FD was called for a ladder truck and additional crews were called in to assist. Several county departments also assisted with establishing additional water supply. Approximately 70,000 gallons of water was shuttled to supplement the municipal supply. Despite several attempts to attack the fire from the interior, crews ultimately had to take a defensive strategy and the home was a total loss. Fortunately the family had been alerted to the fire and was able to escape, only minor injuries were reported. Crews remained on scene until approximately 5:00AM.

We appreciate the help of Rankin County Emergency Operations Pafford EMS Mississippi Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department Lake Harbor Volunteer Fire Department Monterey Vfd Robinhood Fire Department Walters Volunteer Fire Station and Rankin County Sheriffs Office for their help bringing this fire under control.

Happy Labor Day from the Langford Volunteer Fire Department!

Labor Day was established to recognize the contributions and achievements of American workers and the generations of hardworking men and women who helped build and strengthen our communities and our country.

Today, we honor those workers — past and present — and hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a safe and restful holiday with family and friends.

While many enjoy a well-earned day off, our volunteers remain ready to answer the call whenever our community needs us.

Have a safe and happy Labor Day from all of us at Langford Volunteer Fire Department!
