On October 14, 2026, Branford Police and Fire personnel responded to Pine Orchard Road after receiving a report that a motor vehicle had struck a juvenile riding an e-scooter and left the scene.
The juvenile was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital’s pediatric unit and is listed in stable condition with injuries reported to be non-life-threatening.
During the investigation, police reviewed surveillance video from a nearby residence. The video showed a white Subaru SUV stop after the collision and then leave the scene. Debris recovered at the scene, along with witness statements, helped identify the vehicle as a white Subaru Forester.
Investigators later located a vehicle matching that description. After further investigation, the driver was identified and arrested.
Joan Lindell, 82, of Branford, has been charged with: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 14-227a; Risk of injury in the first degree, 53-21; Assault in the second degree with a motor vehicle, 53a-60d; and Evading responsibility, 14-224
Lindell is being held on $50,000 bail.
