Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District The WCNRCD is one of 14 conservation districts in Vermont. We are committed to engaging the community in being good stewards of our natural environment.

As one of 14 conservation districts in the state of Vermont, the WCNRCD has a long history of completing a diverse range of projects throughout Windham County, from water quality projects and education to conservation support for landowners and farmers. We are committed to engaging community members in being good stewards of the land, water, and living creatures in our region. We want to respectfully acknowledge the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Abenaki People, who have stewarded this land throughout the generations.

Hayfields are full of hidden treasures. This time of year, surveying for grassland birds often involves walking by beautiful flowers such as these red clovers, buttercups, and daisies. Managing for grassland birds also benefits the pollinators who rely on these flowers. Happy pollinator week!

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation invites
the public to comment on the draft Tactical Basin Plan (TBP) for the West, Williams, and Saxtons Rivers Basin (also known as Basin 11). DEC completed the plan with local nonprofits, regional planners, town officials, and scientists. The plan outlines more than 75 ways to restore and protect rivers, lakes, and wetlands within a portion of Vermont’s Connecticut River Basin, covering towns from Mount Holly to Brattleboro.

Members of the public can review and comment on the draft plan from June 15 to July 15, 2026. DEC will host hybrid public meetings to present the plan and hear comments from community members and stakeholders:

June 23, 2026 – 6:00 PM: In-Person: Newfane Town Office, 555 Vermont Rt. 30, Newfane, VT

June 25, 2026 – 6:00 PM: In-Person: Londonderry Town Office, 100 Old School Street, South Londonderry, VT

For virtual access, register in advance for this meeting:

These public meetings are your opportunity to weigh in on local water quality priorities before the updated plan is released in summer 2026.
