Over the past few weeks, our newest members have continued to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to begin their careers with the Brattleboro Fire Department.

Week 2 focused on the fundamentals—apparatus checks, PPE, hydrants, and other essential daily operations.

Week 3 shifted to EMS, where they reviewed protocols, worked through patient care scenarios, and became familiar with the equipment.

This week, Week 4, introduced our Special Operations curriculum. Training included vehicle extrication, ring removal and machinery rescue, rope ops, and confined space awareness, giving them exposure to the specialized skills required for a wide variety of emergencies.

Next week marks the conclusion of their orientation program. After completing their final week, these members will officially be assigned to their shifts and begin serving alongside the members of our department.

Congratulations to each of them on the hard work and dedication they’ve shown throughout this process. We look forward to seeing them continue to learn, grow, and serve our community.

Congratulations to our five newest members on successfully completing Week 1 of orientation! Last week wrapped up with a hike, providing an opportunity to build camaraderie while reinforcing the importance of teamwork and resilience.

We are into week 2, where they’ll continue developing the foundational skills and knowledge essential to serving our community. Each week builds upon the last, preparing them for the challenges and responsibilities of the job.

After completing the full five-week orientation program, they will be assigned to their respective shifts and begin their BFD careers.

We refuse to waste an opportunity to say thank you! 🍦

Many thanks to Casella Waste Systems for treating our crews to some ice cream from Nik's Creemees during last week’s heat. It was the perfect way to cool down after a busy day.

We appreciate Casella’s support of our department. Your generosity definitely wasn’t trash - it was the coolest call of the day! ♻️🗑️

⚠️ The Brattleboro Fire Department, in coordination with local and regional emergency management partners, is urging the community to take precautions as extreme heat is expected to affect the region over the next few days. In addition to dangerous heat and humidity, there is also the potential for severe thunderstorms, which may bring heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning.

High temperatures combined with elevated humidity levels will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations, including older adults, young children, individuals with chronic medical conditions, and those without access to air conditioning.
