Last month, the Brea Fire Department responded to a cardiac arrest at LifeTime Fitness. Two off-duty firefighters, from other fire agencies, and a nurse practitioner who were also at Life Time Fitness were there to immediately start CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to provide lifesaving care before Brea Fire crews arrived. Care was then transferred to Captain/Paramedic Robles, Captain/Paramedic Sabri, Firefighter Yoscovits, Firefighter Fishback, Ambulance Operators Rosas and Gallegos to transport to St. Jude Medical Center, where the patient ended up walking out of the hospital a few days later. Today, the emergency responders, both on and off duty, who attended to the patient gathered at St. Jude Medical Center to celebrate this positive outcome.

Today, Brea City Hall joined in on the “Great Shake Out”, an annual earthquake drill. Staff practiced hiding under their desks until told it was safe to leave the building. In an event of a real earthquake, remember to drop where you are, cover your head and neck with one arm, and hold on until the shaking stops. This is also a great reminder to check your emergency kit and your escape plans during an emergency.
