Brevard Elementary teachers showed their team spirit for Red Ribbon Week with Team Jersey Day on Tuesday. Different teams, one shared goal: encouraging our students to make healthy, kind choices and live drug-free!

BES Red Ribbon Week | October 19 to 23, 2026

All week long, we are celebrating healthy choices, kindness, and being drug-free. Students and staff join our spirit days throughout the week.

Today is Unity Day at BES, and students and staff are wearing orange to show that they stand together against bullying.

🧡🖤 FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS, THANK YOU! 🖤🧡

We want to take a moment to thank EVERYONE who helped make our new wrestling mats and other much-needed items possible! Your generosity means more than you know. These additions will help us stay organized, improve our program, and most importantly, keep our wrestlers safe on the mats! 🤼‍♂️🐅

It takes a village to build a program, and we are so grateful for every donation, share, helping hand, and word of encouragement. You are all part of the Rosman Wrestling family, and we couldn’t have done this without you!

📣 ATTENTION, ROSMAN WRESTLING ALUMNI! 📣

Be on the lookout for more information coming soon! We want to welcome our alumni back to check out our new building, see the new mats, and celebrate how far this program has come.

To every wrestler who has ever worn the Rosman singlet, stepped onto the mat, and left a little blood, sweat, and tears along the way — YOU helped build this program, too! This is your home, and your legacy is part of everything we do. 🐅

Here’s to honoring our past, celebrating our present, and building a stronger future for Rosman Wrestling!

ONCE A TIGER, ALWAYS A TIGER! 🧡🖤🤼‍♂️

Superintendent Dr. Lisa Fletcher is visiting every school in Transylvania County Schools to sit down with student groups for honest, meaningful conversations. She asks what is working well at their schools, what they are proud of, and what they would like to see improved.

Students share their ideas with thoughtfulness and confidence, and they represent their peers extremely well.

Later in the year, groups of educators in each school will join Dr. Fletcher for Scoop with the Supe' Teacher Edition.

Dear Transylvania County Schools community,

TCS will require visitors to carry clear bags at middle and high school athletic events beginning Jan. 1, 2027.

Clear bag policies are common at schools and athletic venues across the country, and TCS is adopting one as a precaution. When the district can take a step in advance to keep students, families, and fans safe, it will.

The policy applies to all visitors at middle and high school athletic events. Athletes and coaches may enter as usual without a clear bag. Events at elementary schools are not affected.

A Transylvania County Sheriff’s deputy and a school administrator will be at each entrance gate to visually check bags as visitors arrive. Anyone carrying a bag that does not meet the requirements will be asked to take it back to their vehicle. Visitors who do not comply will not be able to enter the event.

A few exceptions apply. Parents with young children may bring a diaper bag, and visitors who need medical supplies, such as oxygen, may bring those items inside.

Signs explaining the policy will be posted at the Brevard High School and Rosman High School gymnasiums, both new and old, as well as the Brevard Middle School gymnasium. Signs will also be placed at the Brevard High School and Rosman High School football fields, the Brevard High School softball and baseball fields, and the Rosman softball and baseball fields.

Transylvania County Schools encourages anyone with questions to reach out to their school principals. Thank you for helping us keep our school events safe.

🐯➡️🐻 Tigers today… Bears tomorrow?

Beautiful weather, hometown connections, and big possibilities! Today, Rosman High School ninth graders visited Lenoir-Rhyne University, courtesy of GEAR UP!

Students toured campus, enjoyed lunch, learned about LR’s Bear mascot, and explored college opportunities—including the university’s Tuition-Free Guarantee for eligible students!

One of the sweetest parts of the day was seeing hometown success stories in action! LR alumna and Transylvania County’s own Kristen Burton joined the trip, and students connected with other Transylvania County graduates who currently attend LR. Seeing familiar faces on a college campus helped bring the message home: “I could do this, too!” 💛

A special thank-you to Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Williams from Rosman Middle and Rosman High for their essential roles in making this experience possible!

What a BEAR-y great day for our Tigers to picture their futures! 🐾🎓

1-2-3 Crunch! 🍎 Mrs. Shook’s class at Pisgah Forest Elementary joined classrooms across the state to celebrate NC Crunch Day by taking a big bite of a locally grown apple, all at the same time.

Each year, NC Crunch events give kids and adults a chance to taste and learn about NC-grown produce. The day also honors everyone who helps feed our kids and communities!

The NC Crunch is co-hosted by the Farm to School Coalition of NC and the NC Farm to Preschool Network and organized by the Growing Minds program at ASAP. It celebrates agriculture, nutrition, and farm to school activities during Farm to School and Early Care and Education Month in October.

Transylvania County and Transylvania County Schools are celebrating an exciting milestone: the start of the comprehensive Rosman Area School Bond Projects! Join us on Thursday, October 29, for a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of extensive renovations and improvements at Rosman High/Middle School, T.C. Henderson School of Science and Technology, and Rosman Elementary School.

📅 Thursday, October 29, 2026

📍 Ceremony Schedule:
1:30 p.m. – Opening remarks and groundbreaking at the Rosman High School mural
2:00 p.m. – Groundbreaking at the T.C. Henderson mural
2:30 p.m. – Groundbreaking and closing remarks near the Rosman Elementary School main entrance

Note: October 29 is a teacher workday; so parking will be available at the schools for community members attending the ceremonies.

This set of bond projects will address important building needs and help create safer, more comfortable, and more efficient learning environments for students and staff. Planned improvements include new roofs, heating and cooling system upgrades, electrical improvements, structural repairs, exterior renovations, and updated security entrances at all three schools.

Over $50 million in bond projects are ongoing at ALL Transylvania County schools, in addition to a $62 million grant-funded project at Brevard High School. A second set of bonds totaling $18 million is scheduled to be sold in 2028 and will fund additional cosmetic updates and interior renovations.

These investments represent an important step toward enhancing school facilities and supporting the Rosman community for years to come. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with local leaders, staff, partners, and community members.

FAQs:

🚩 What are bonds?

Bonds are a method of debt service funding to help pay for large-scale projects like these school renovations. A complete plan for projects had to be created and submitted before the bonds could be sold. The first bonds were sold at the end of 2024 so the projects could begin. The County will pay the bonds back over time according to a pre-established debt schedule. The County has been planning and saving for school bond payments over multiple years.

🚩 What are the school bond projects?

These are capital (construction/renovation) projects to conduct major updates and repairs to ALL Transylvania County Schools. The scopes of work were identified through a comprehensive assessment by contractor Axias; approved by both the Board of Education and the Board of Commissioners; and finalized in an Interlocal Agreement by Transylvania County and Transylvania County Schools in February 2025.

🚩 Want to stay in the loop on school renovations?

The School Bond Project Manager delivers a report on the renovation and construction work at the 2nd Board of Commissioners meeting every month, as well as at Board of Education Meetings. His reports are also available on the County website at www.transylvaniacounty.org/transylvania-county-special-projects
