If You See Something, Say Something: Citizens Encouraged to Report Crime and Suspicious Activity
The Brewster Police Department is strongly encouraging residents to promptly report crimes, suspicious activity, and circumstances that may pose a threat to the safety of our community.
Community members play an important role in helping law enforcement prevent crime and respond quickly when incidents occur. If you witness a crime, are the victim of a crime, or observe suspicious activity, please report it. Your call could provide information that helps officers respond, protect others, and hold offenders accountable.
Call 911 when:
• A crime is happening now or has just occurred.
• Someone is in immediate danger or needs emergency assistance.
• You witness violence, a serious threat, a dangerous driver, or another emergency.
• You see suspicious activity that appears to present an immediate threat to people or property.
For non-emergency matters, contact (330)-830-4272 or use (330)-767-3191.
When reporting suspicious activity, residents should not approach, confront, or attempt to detain anyone. Instead, move to a safe location and provide dispatchers with as much information as possible, including the location, what you observed, descriptions of people or vehicles, direction of travel, and other relevant details.
Residents should report behavior and circumstances that cause legitimate concern, rather than making assumptions based solely on a person's appearance, identity, or other protected characteristics.
We need our community to be our eyes and ears, If you see a crime occurring, witness something that doesn't seem right, or believe someone may be in danger, don't assume someone else will make the call. Reporting suspicious activity can give law enforcement an opportunity to intervene and help keep our community safe.
Even information that may seem minor can be useful when combined with other reports or evidence. Residents are encouraged to report what they observed and allow trained dispatchers and law enforcement personnel to determine the appropriate response.
When in doubt about an emergency, call 911. If there is no immediate threat, use the appropriate non-emergency reporting option (330)-830-4272 or (330)-767-3191
