The City of Brewton has adjusted trick-or-treating hours on October 31 to 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM due to debris remaining on roadways and sidewalks from Hurricane Isaias cleanup. This decision was made with our top priority in mind: keeping our children safe while also allowing them to enjoy Halloween.
Help keep our children safe during trick-or-treat:
• Watch for debris and avoid blocked, barricaded, or unsafe sidewalks.
• Use designated crossings and stay alert near roadways.
• Drive carefully on all roadways and watch closely for pedestrians.
• Follow posted detours and all traffic closures.

Traffic Alert: Portions of Belleville Avenue and Evergreen Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic during trick-or-treat. Extra police officers will be working during this event to help ensure the safety of all our citizens.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our community continues to recover. Let’s work together to make Halloween safe and enjoyable for everyone!

FACT CHECK: "FEMA is handing out money in Alabama"

Damage assessments are underway, but federal assistance takes weeks if you're lucky, months if you aren't. You can help make Alabama's case for federal assistance by reporting damage to your county EMA.

A sweet taste of Alabama fall!

The American persimmon is Alabama’s only native persimmon species, and its ripe fruit offers plenty of delicious possibilities.

The key is patience! Harvest only fully ripe, soft fruit. Unripe persimmons are intensely astringent and unpleasant to eat.

Use a sieve or fruit pulper to separate the sweet pulp from the seeds and skin, then enjoy it in puddings, jams, fruit butters, pies or ice cream. Freeze the pulp to save some sweetness for later.

Ripe persimmons don’t store well, so process them promptly or refrigerate until you’re ready.
