Local, state and FEMA teams are assessing damage today. This joint assessment determines if Alabama meets the threshold for federal assistance. *IF* we do, that empowers the Governor to request a Major Disaster Declaration from the President through FEMA.

This process and any federal assistance heading our way will take a while!

PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: DO NOT BURN STORM DEBRIS

Escambia County, Alabama — October 16, 2026

The Escambia County Emergency Management Agency urges all residents to DO NOT BURN storm debris following the damage caused by Hurricane Isaias, especially with stronger winds expected tonight and continuing into tomorrow.

With storm debris still scattered throughout the county and stronger winds expected, burning brush piles, fallen limbs, and other debris creates a serious fire hazard. Wind can quickly carry sparks and embers into dry vegetation, nearby homes, power lines, and other structures, allowing a small fire to spread rapidly.

PLEASE DO YOUR PART:

Do not burn storm debris, brush piles, fallen limbs, or other storm-related waste.

Keep debris away from homes, power lines, and other structures.

Avoid activities that could create sparks or start a fire.

Use extra caution with outdoor equipment and open flames.

We understand that many residents have large amounts of storm debris to remove. However, with stronger winds expected tonight and tomorrow, burning debris could create another dangerous emergency for our communities.

Please help us protect our firefighters, our neighbors, and our communities. Do not burn storm debris while hazardous conditions persist.

Please share this notice to help spread the word throughout Escambia County.
