🎃 Another year of Trunks, Treats, and Veterans! 👻🇺🇸

DAV Chapter 20 was back at it again for Brick Township's annual Trunk or Treat at Drum Point Sports Complex, and what a fantastic night it was!

With well over 1,000 kids coming out for some Halloween fun, our veterans, families, and volunteers made sure Chapter 20 was well represented! Between the spooky decorations, plenty of candy, and a few laughs along the way, the Chapter 20 family certainly showed up in full force! 💀🍬

Events like these are about more than just handing out candy. They're about getting our veterans out into the community, bringing families together, and showing that our commitment to service doesn't end when we take off the uniform.

A huge thank-you to everyone who came out to represent Chapter 20 and to Brick Township for putting together another wonderful community event!

🎃 Happy Halloween from our DAV Chapter 20 family to yours! 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago today, September 11, 2001 changed our nation forever.

For those who were old enough to remember that morning, many can still recall exactly where they were when the news broke. We remember the confusion, the fear, the images that followed, and the extraordinary courage of firefighters, police officers, first responders, service members, ordinary citizens, and families who faced an unimaginable day.

For many veterans of our generation, September 11 became more than a moment in history. It became part of the reason we raised our right hands.

Some enlisted because of what happened that day. Others were already serving and suddenly found the mission before them transformed. In the years that followed, an entire generation of Americans served during a period of war shaped by the attacks of 9/11. Some came home carrying visible wounds. Others carried wounds no one could see. Some never came home at all.

But the significance of September 11 belongs to more than one generation.

For those who served before us, it was another chapter in a lifetime of defending a nation they had already sacrificed for. For families, it became years of deployments, uncertainty, empty seats, homecomings, and loss. And for younger Americans who were not yet born in 2001, 9/11 is now history — but it is history worth understanding.

Twenty-five years later, remembrance should not simply be about looking backward. It should remind us of the courage ordinary people are capable of, the cost carried by those who serve, and the responsibility we share to care for one another.

Today, we remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger. We remember the service members and veterans whose lives were shaped by the wars that followed. We remember the families who continue to carry their absence.

And we recommit ourselves to something simple but important:

Never forget — and never stop serving one another.

May God comfort those who still carry the weight of that day, bless those who serve, and guide our nation toward unity and peace.

SCAM ALERT FOR DAV MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS

Someone is impersonating our chapter commander and using a fake DAV email address with the wrong chapter number. The message asks the recipient to purchase Apple or Sephora gift cards, scratch off the codes, and send pictures of the cards and receipt.

Do not purchase anything, send gift card numbers, click links, or provide personal information. This is a scam. I continued the conversation only long enough to document what they were attempting.

Please remember that DAV officers and chapter leadership will not unexpectedly ask you by email or text to spend hundreds of dollars on gift cards or send photographs of gift card codes. Scammers often create a sense of urgency, request secrecy, and impersonate someone you trust.

When in doubt, stop and verify the request using contact information you already know is legitimate. Do not reply to the suspicious message.

Anyone who receives something like this or has questions can contact me directly:

Phone: 848-667-0585
Official Chapter 20 membership email: [email protected]

You may also contact your local DAV chapter or DAV state leadership directly.

Please share this warning, especially with members who may be more vulnerable to these scams.
