Last night was night 5 of our weekly Probationary training program. The topics for the night was efficient and quick fire attack! Firefighters worked on hose line deployment, masking up, operator training and car fire operations. By the final evolution, it took crews a minute to get water on the fire from when the parking brake was set. A late Friday night but excellent training night!

Tonight was night 3 of our weekly probationary training program. Firefighters continued building off of weeks 1 and 2, rolling it together into a firefighter survival focused night. Our air bottles only hold a capacity of 30 minutes of air. That 30 minutes is rated for someone at rest, not under extreme load - like stretching a hose line or searching a floor which basically cuts your air capacity in half. Breathing techniques and air conservation are vital for firefighters when inside a structure. Firefighters drilled on breathing techniques, and more SCBA use. Then they all entered our academy’s confined space maze. The maze is a 0 visibility blacked out room consisting of randomized directional changes, obstacles and claustrophobic areas. This helps our firefighters become comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Tonight was night 2 of our weekly probationary training program. Firefighters covered all things SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) tonight. Our SCBA or airpacks, are our most valuable and important pieces of equipment to be proficient with. Firefighters drilled on maintenance, capabilities and familiarity. Following, multiple blackout scenarios took place tying last week’s radio topics into tonight’s topics.
