Media Release – Motor Vehicle Accident / Arrest

On Tuesday, October 13th, 2026, at approximately 7:11 p.m. the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three-vehicle accident reported atop the Northport Overpass.

Deputies arrived on scene and an investigation determined that a white Ford F-150 was following traffic too closely, failed to stop, and struck a sedan. The sedan was then pushed into an SUV.

A juvenile passenger in the sedan reported minor injuries and medical services were dispatched to the scene. The juvenile did not require transportation to a hospital.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver of the white Ford F-150, Jack L. Swires of Bridgeport for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and various other charges.

The Morrill County Sheriff’s Office thanks Morrill County ALS for their rapid and professional response to the scene.

All individuals arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

On Friday morning, October 9, 2026, Scotts Bluff County Deputies arrested Richard Brewer, age 39, of Splendora, Texas. Brewer was arrested on a Texas warrant charging him with felony forgery $150,000…

The preschoolers got the chance to see what things look like from the front seat of the patrol units, check out some of the equipment our deputies use and take home a few goodies.

There may have been a few lights and sirens involved, too. 🚨

We had a great morning at The Simple Co.! Coffee with a Cop came with a few important conversations, too. 💙

Mrs. Watts and Mrs. April brought their preschool classes by to share some laughs and smiles with Sheriff Milo, Chief Deputy Daniel, Deputy Nate and Deputy Perkins.

Sheriff Milo spent some time talking with our preschool visitors about what deputies do in their community. He reminded them that deputies are their friends, that they never need to be afraid to come say hello, and that when they see us driving around town, we’re out there helping make sure they’re safe.

There were plenty of questions, a little talk about gun safety— and, of course, a whole lot of excitement when it was time to see the patrol units.

A big thank you to The Simple Co. crew for hosting us, your support and generosity mean so much to our officers and the community. We would also like to thank Mrs. Watts, Mrs. April, and their classes for spending part of their morning with us. We had just as much fun as they did! 💛🤎

⚠️ Road Closure Reminder ⚠️

Just a reminder that the Hwy 88 rail road crossing is going be closed for repairs on October 8th and 9th. Please plan for enough travel time in case of delays.

Road 90 is marked with detour signs and can be used as a detour to the Hwy 385 crossing by the ethanol plant.

Please use caution, watch for detour signs and plan accordingly.

Tomorrow morning (Thursday) from 7–9 AM, we’re celebrating National Coffee with a Cop Day at Simple Co!

During those two hours, all coffee proceeds will be donated to our local Morrill County Sheriff’s Department. ❤️

Our deputies will also be here at Simple Co, so stop in, grab a coffee, and take a moment to tell them thank you for all they do for our community!

We are so incredibly grateful for the men and women who serve and protect our community. We support them 100% and couldn’t be more thankful to have such a great group of people serving right here in Morrill County.
