Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department - Vermont

Call Directions

Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department - Vermont Bridgewater is 100% all volunteer department serving Bridgewater since 1951. We now have better training, and upgraded equipment. miles.

The Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department was started in 1951, with just one homemade pumper truck. We have come a long ways since then now with 2 engines, a tanker, utility truck, and a UTV. The department responds to about 50 calls a year protecting around 970 full time residents within 50 sq. We also respond to surrounding towns when they need additional resources. Our calls range from Building fires, car accidents, wild land fires, Haz-mat incidents, alarm activations, carbon monoxide issues, water rescue, off road rescue and various other calls. Members meet every Monday night and perform maintenance on the apparatus and equipment, trainings, meetings, and planning and preparing for fund raisers. If you would like to become a member of this department stop by on a Monday night at the station around 6:30 and one of the members would be happy to talk with you.

On Monday 09/21/26 members of the BVFD practiced hose line advancement, hose handling, and nozzle use. This included deploying our pre connected loads and the proper way of repacking the pre connected hose loads to ensure proper deployment when needed. Scenarios and scene size up was discussed as well. We also had some fun with moving any empty b**r keg around a cone obstacle course. This requires finesse of the nozzle and was a fun challenge.

On Wednesday night September 16th our members participated in a water supply training hosted by the Plymouth Fire Dept. at Hawk Resort. We were assigned to draft water with engine 1 from a porta tank. We then operated our ground monitor, and supplied a Killington engine that operated a deck gun, and an 1 3/4” hand-line. Our 500 gpm portable pump was also utilized as a supplement to tankers. Our tanker was utilized in a tanker shuttle with other mutual aid tankers to fill port tanks.

Some less glorified but important projects the fire department does. Last night members fixed a dry hydrant strainer on North Bridgewater Road. The strainer and elbow had to be removed and then properly placed, after they somehow got turned in the wrong direction. Our hydrants are tested annually to ensure proper operation.

The Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that came out and supported us yesterday at our chicken BBQ. This was our 15th year of doing this. The BBQ was a huge success and of course it could not happen without our volunteers and everyone’s support. See you all next year.
