Update: YES! The incident was cleared a while ago.

Mason PUD 1 arrived, made the scene safe, and our crews returned to service while they tidied up.

TRAFFIC & SAFETY ALERT: DOWNED POWER LINES AT KELLY ROAD AND DUCKABUSH ROAD

Brinnon Fire Department is currently on scene of an incident involving downed, energized power lines near the intersection of Kelly Road and Duckabush Road.

A truck and RV trailer are entangled

in the power lines. Crews are awaiting Mason County PUD 1 to secure and de-energize the lines before the vehicles can be safely moved.

CURRENT ROAD CONDITIONS:

* Duckabush Road remains OPEN.
* Kelly Road is CLOSED at the west entrance until the scene can be made safe.
* Please avoid the immediate area and use an alternate route.

At this time, there is no immediate danger reported to nearby homes or the driver. However, the downed lines remain energized and present a serious electrical hazard.

IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDERS:

* Never approach or touch a downed power line. Always assume it is energized.
* Stay well away from vehicles, fences, trees, or other objects that may be in contact with electrical lines.
* Do not attempt to move downed wires or anything touching them.
* Please keep children and pets away from the area.
* Follow directions from emergency personnel and do not drive around road closures.

POWER OUTAGE POSSIBLE: Residents in the surrounding neighborhood may experience a temporary power outage while Mason County PUD 1 works to secure the lines and make the area safe.

We anticipate the road closure may last approximately one to two hours, depending on utility operations and the time required to safely clear the vehicles. This is an estimate, not a confirmed reopening time.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while Brinnon Fire Department and Mason County PUD 1 work to resolve the situation safely.

Please avoid the area and give crews room to work.

We may provide updates as additional information becomes available if necessary.

🚒 DID YOU KNOW? BRINNON FIRE IS ITS OWN LOCAL GOVERNMENT!

This past week, fire commissioners and fire chiefs from across Washington gathered in Spokane for the 2026 Washington Fire Commissioners Association Annual Conference.

The theme was “Tomorrow's challenges require today's preparation.” It's a message that certainly applies to rural fire districts like ours.

But here's something many people may not realize about Brinnon Fire Department.

We are not a department of Jefferson County government or the State of Washington.

Brinnon Fire Department is officially Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 4, an independent local government established under Washington law.

Fire districts are commonly called junior taxing districts. That means we are special-purpose local governments authorized to collect taxes to provide specific public services.

So who runs Brinnon Fire?

Our district is governed by three fire commissioners, elected by the voters who live within Fire District 4. They serve staggered six-year terms and are responsible for district policies, budgets, financial oversight, and hiring the Fire Chief.

The Fire Chief is responsible for the department's daily operations, personnel, training, equipment, and emergency response.

Our funding comes primarily from local property taxes, along with other authorized sources such as ambulance billing and grants.

Why is this important?

Because decisions about Brinnon's emergency services are made locally, by commissioners elected by the people we serve.

While we operate independently, we work closely with neighboring fire departments, Jefferson County, state agencies, and other emergency service partners. In a rural community, those relationships are essential.

Conferences like the one in Spokane help our leadership stay current on changing laws, emergency preparedness, financial responsibilities, and the challenges facing fire districts across Washington.

Our goal is to bring that knowledge home and use it to make Brinnon Fire Department stronger, more prepared, and better equipped to serve our community.

Your fire district is locally governed, locally supported, and accountable to you.

And that's something worth understanding.

BRINGING HEALTHCARE CLOSER TO HOME IN BRINNON!

If you’ve driven by Brinnon Fire Station lately, you’ve probably noticed Jefferson Healthcare’s Mobile Dental Clinic parked outside. And we’re happy to report that it’s already making a difference in our community!

For many Brinnon residents, receiving dental care means traveling to Port Townsend or beyond. That can be especially challenging for those with transportation difficulties, limited mobility, or busy schedules.

Through our partnership with Jefferson Healthcare, residents can now receive professional dental care right here at Brinnon Fire Department.

And the feedback has been fantastic!

One resident recently shared their experience on the Brinnon community page, describing the dental team as “just FANTASTIC” and expressing how wonderful it was not having to travel somewhere else for dental care.

BUT HERE’S WHAT MAKES THIS PARTNERSHIP EVEN MORE EXCITING!

Jefferson Healthcare has bigger plans for its mobile healthcare program.

While dental care is the initial focus, the long-term vision includes bringing additional healthcare services directly into rural communities like ours.

Future services being explored or planned include:

* Primary care and routine medical services
* Vaccinations and preventive healthcare
* Behavioral health services
* Financial counseling and assistance navigating healthcare costs

These services will be introduced as the program develops, with availability and scheduling determined by Jefferson Healthcare.

We’re also excited about opportunities for local schoolchildren to visit the mobile clinic, learn about dental health, and become more comfortable with dental care. Additional educational opportunities, including information about oral cancer, are also being discussed.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER TO BRINNON?

Because living in a rural community shouldn’t mean having to travel long distances for every healthcare need.

At Brinnon Fire, our responsibility to the community goes beyond responding to emergencies. When we have an opportunity to help bring valuable services closer to home, we want to be part of making that happen.

A special thank-you to Dr. Pavel Vasilyuk, Jamie, and the entire Jefferson Healthcare team for their commitment to serving South County.

We’re proud to provide a home for the mobile clinic while it’s here in Brinnon, and we’re looking forward to seeing this partnership grow.

A Big Thank You to Quilcene Fire Rescue!👏

You may have noticed a Quilcene Fire Rescue ambulance out and about in Brinnon over the past couple of weeks. Well, now you know why!

Our Brinnon Fire Department ambulance was out of service for some unexpected repairs, and our neighbors at Quilcene Fire Rescue stepped up and loaned us one of theirs so we could continue providing ambulance service to our community.

The repairs took a little longer than expected, but we’re happy to report that our ambulance is back in service and Quilcene’s ambulance has been returned.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to Chief McKern and everyone at Quilcene Fire Rescue for their generosity, patience, and willingness to help us out.

This is what neighboring fire districts do. We help each other when it’s needed, because at the end of the day, it’s about taking care of our communities.

Thank you, Quilcene Fire Rescue! We truly appreciate the partnership.🚑
