When you host the right courses, people show up from across the country!

This week we hosted the Media and Public Relations Course from FBI-LEEDA. This course brought together 15 public safety professionals who are responsible for providing information to the public. This was a diverse group that included one federal officer, two students each from Alabama 🐘North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. One from both South Carolina and Tennessee, and six from Virginia.

We are thankful for your attendance and hope that you will put the lessons learned here to great use.

We had special guests visiting today! Students from Virginia Primary School’s summer program come by to tour the academy. They got a behind the scenes look at what it’s like to be a student at the academy!

We enjoyed their visit and sharing the experience with them!

The 129th LE Basic wrapped up a week of mental health training with an introductory Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) course. The class spent the morning learning about the origins of CIT, the mental health system in America, enabling legislation, and communication tactics for dealing with people in crisis.

After lunch, the class put the training to use by completing a practical exam demonstrating their understanding of CIT concepts.

A big thank you to Highlands Community Services for providing instruction in mental health first aid and the introductory CIT class.

Meet the seven newest driving instructors from our member agencies. They spent a hot week on the asphalt in Morristown, TN learning how to teach others to operate vehicles in emergency conditions. They had to design courses, set them up, and teach others how to brake, roll the throttle, and shuffle steer, and stay hydrated.

This is a great course, taught by an absolutely fabulous instructor.

A great week for a great bunch of people.
Congratulations to you all!

We had a really busy week at the academy this week! We were fortunate to host Dean Crisp and Leaders Helping Leaders Network for the Master Leader course.

Eighteen of public safety leaders from our region chose to attend this great course.

The Master Leader class is the third in Dean’s three-part Significant Leader series.

For sixteen of those in attendance, this was there third, and final, class in the series. These sixteen have earned recognition as Significant Leaders!

Congratulations to all of those who chose to attend and push themselves to be significant in the lives of others through their ability to lead.
