Last night, crews practiced high-angle rope rescue and patient packaging utilizing Truck 5231’s Lyfe Pulley and 3:1 systems under the instruction of LT Dan Pierce and FF/EMT/DO Josh Shetler. Training focused on reinforcing the skills, equipment, and techniques necessary to safely access, stabilize, and remove patients from elevated or otherwise difficult-to-reach locations.
While these incidents may be less common than the emergencies we respond to every day, they are not just hypothetical scenarios. High-angle technical rescue incidents requiring these skills have occurred right here in Kenosha County, including grain bin rescues, the removal of injured construction workers from elevated job sites and cell towers, and the evacuation of patients experiencing medical emergencies in areas with limited access.
These challenging incidents require specialized equipment, technical proficiency, effective communication, and coordinated teamwork to ensure the safety of both rescuers and patients.
