Goodson Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department Goodson Kinderhook is a Career/Volunteer Fire Department that has been proudly serving 110 sq miles

In early 1967 some active volunteer Firefighters with the Washington County Volunteer Fire Department No.1 along with several community members realized that there was a need in our community for an organized Fire Department. Most of these early discussions took place at Ray Ball’s Trading Post located at Burson’s Corner, ( now the Country Corner Market), on Benhams Road. Property for the Main Station was deeded to the then name Washington County Volunteer Fire Department No. 2 on March 27, 1967. When preparing to apply for the Certificate of Incorporation with the Virginia State Corporation Commission it was decided then to change the name of the new Fire Department in order to better describe the area of Washington County Virginia it would serve. Since the new Fire Department would be serving the Goodson Magisterial District and the Kinderhook Magisterial District of Washington County Virginia, it was decided to name the Fire Department the Goodson-Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department. With redistricting in Washington County and the decision to rename the seven Magisterial Districts after the seven Virginia born United States Presidents, the Goodson-Kinderhook name became a very unique name for the Fire Department. With the closure of the Goodson-Kinderhook Water Works when it was incorporated into the Washington County Service Authority, the Goodson-Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department became the last remaining County entity or organization retaining the names of the two former Magisterial Districts.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation and our lives changed forever.

Goodson Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department asks everyone to take time today to remember the firefighters, EMS providers, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, military personnel, and flight crews who showed incredible bravery on September 11, 2001. We also honor the courageous passengers and crew of Flight 93 who fought back and gave their lives to protect others.

Most importantly, we remember every innocent life lost that day, those who later passed away from 9/11-related illnesses, and the families who continue to live with that loss.

Today, we take time to remember everyone—their lives, their courage, and their sacrifice.

September 11, 2001 — We will never forget.

Fire 1 – Week 4

Here at Goodson Kinderhook we are currently hosting a Firefighter 1 class, and they are already 4 weeks in!

These guys and girls have been putting in some serious work. Everyone works their regular full-time jobs, then comes to class after work. Some even come while they're in the middle of a 24-hour shift. They spend around 2 hours in the classroom and then another hour or more outside working on skills.

Last night, after 2 hours in the classroom listening to Bill talk...and talk...and talk, lol, it was time to get outside and work. After over an hour of skills, Bill finished the night by putting them through the 2-minute drill.

For anyone who doesn't know, they have 2 minutes to get all their turnout gear on, get their SCBA on, and go on air.

And they did FANTASTIC!

Here's a video of the class showing Bill they can handle whatever he throws at them!

They've worked their butts off these first 4 weeks, and they still have a long way to go, but you can already see how far they've come.

And it's not just Goodson Kinderhook that's going to benefit from all this hard work. We have several different agencies represented in this class, and every one of those departments is getting ready to have some awesome firefighters coming their way.

It's pretty awesome watching everyone from different departments come together, train together, help each other out, and work toward the same goal.

And Bill... I think you might have a class that's going to outdo you!

Four weeks down and plenty more to go. Keep up the hard work, y'all!

Goodson Kinderhook Fire & Rescue would like to give a big thank-you to Food City on Bonham Road for donating several cases of water to our department!

With the work our firefighters and EMS providers do, especially during the hot summer months, staying hydrated is extremely important. Donations like this help keep our members safe and ready to serve our community.

Thank you, Food City, for supporting our department and our first responders! We truly appreciate your generosity. 🚒💧❤️

🚒 Training Never Stops! 🚒

If you notice a few extra vehicles in the Goodson Kinderhook Fire & Rescue parking lot on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, don't worry—we're hosting a Firefighter I class!

We're proud to welcome students from multiple fire departments, along with several of our own newest members who are beginning their Firefighter I training. It's great to see so many people stepping up to serve their communities.

Training is the foundation of everything we do. Every class, every drill, and every hands-on evolution helps prepare firefighters to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

We want to thank all of the students, instructors, and participating departments for their dedication and commitment. We wish everyone the best of luck throughout the course!

🔥 Always training. Always learning. Always ready to serve our community. 🚒
