In September the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department responded to 30 incidents. Half of those calls were as first responders to assist Canandaigua Emergency Squad with EMS calls. We had 5 calls to our Mutual Aid departments - Richmond Volunteer Fire Department, Naples and Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department. We had a number of weather related calls resulting in lines down and two motor vehicle collision calls. To date this year Bristol Volunteer Fire Department has responded to 254 calls.

September is always a busy month for us as we prepare for our annual clambake. We were fortunate to have glorious weather and folks were able to relax and enjoy their clams and all the food available from the kitchen and on the buffet line. We will be putting much of the profits earned back into the clambake facility in order to improve the grounds and buildings to better serve our loyal patrons to this event.

We are busy outfitting our new mini-pumper vehicle and have started some training with it. We will also be doing live burn training at the Public Safety Training Facility - PSTF in October.

November 3rd is election day! We will be offering BBQ dinner that day. More details to follow...

Another great event!

State Route 64 was closed between Fisher Hill Road and Vincent Hill Road for several hours yesterday as Bristol Volunteer Fire Department worked a Haz-Mat incident. A diesel fuel spill occured after a Tractor-trailer was hit by a mini-van. The driver of the van was extricated by the fire fighters on scene and taken to the hospital by Canandaigua Emergency Squad. The driver is currently in satisfactory condition. NYS Department of Environmental Conservation assisted in the mitigation and clean up from the spill.

Yesterday morning members of Bristol Volunteer Fire Department participated in a 3.43 mile walk down West Lake Rd in memory of the 343 firefighters that lost their lives on 9/11. The event was coordinated by Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally, BVFD participated in a parade and ceremony yesterday evening at the American Legion on Main St in Canandaigua.

We all remember where we were that day during those horrendous hours. May we never forget.

Glad our brothers and sisters all came away unhurt. Prayers for the family….

In July the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department responded to 30 incidents. Of those, nearly half were mutual aid calls to neighboring districts such as Naples, East Bloomfield, Honeoye and Cheshire. Mutual aid is vitally important to the volunteer fire services. The resources provided by our local districts are priceless when it comes to calls like house fires, vehicle accidents that involve more than one car or truck, brush fires, etc... BVFD was also toned out for eleven calls to provide EMS first response and assistance to Canandaigua Emergency Squad.

In August our drills will include a training at a local farm in preparation for possible silo fires, a review of the use of Ontario County's Foam Trailer and an in-service on our newly purchased SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus).

If you are interested in joining the BVFD family, feel free to stop down on any Monday night to speak with someone and get an application.

We also have $5 tickets available for purchase of a chance to win a fire pit and four composite adirondack chairs. The drawing will be held during our Clambake on September 19th. You do not have to be present to win.

Please contact the link below to urge Governor Hochul to sign the new bill. Your volunteer firefighters deserve some credit.

For nearly 20 years, New York's Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers Tax Credit has remained unchanged.

I was proud to support S.6233-A/A.6790-A, legislation that increases this tax credit for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers. The bill increases the credit from $200 to $800 for individuals and from $400 to $1,600 for married couples filing jointly. It also allows eligible volunteers to receive both the tax credit and a local property tax exemption.

This is the second year we have passed this bill in the Senate and the first year it has passed both houses of the Legislature. Now, it awaits the Governor's signature.

Please join me in urging the Governor to sign this legislation into law. It is an important first step in supporting the dedicated firefighters and ambulance workers in our communities.
