Bristol (CT) Public Works The Public Works Department endeavors to preserve and enhance the social and environmental quality of life in the City of Bristol.

This is accomplished through the delivery of services designed to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of its citizens. Public Works is your municipal service team! We collect rubbish, recycling, bulk items, brush/branches, Christmas trees, leaves and yard waste (by subscription). We also manage the Transfer Station, and Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics collections. We install, repair and maintain catch basins/storm drains, patch potholes, maintain trees in the right-of-way, maintain City buildings and equipment and provide snow removal and ice control. We manage Water Pollution Control and sewers. We plan, design and supervise improvement projects for roads, storm drainage, sanitary sewers, sidewalks and bridges. Public Works also monitors and guides City growth, development and resource conservation. This page is NOT monitored 24/7. In an emergency please call the Bristol Police Department.

The light at the Mix St. - Maple Ave. intersection has not been working properly and causing increased congestion and lines of backed up traffic, as reported by citizens over the last week.

The Public Works traffic signal vendor looked at this traffic signal this week.
Bad News: The vehicle detection for the signal is not currently functioning, and the traffic signal is working on a time allocation basis.
Good News: The time allocation was adjusted manually to provide more green light time to Mix St. once Maple Ave. turns red, and the Public Works Dept. has issued a Purchase Order for a new vehicle detection component.

Before Bristol reset the timing, Maple had 18 seconds and Mix had 17 seconds of green. It was retimed to provide 20 seconds of green to Maple and 30 seconds to Mix.

Thanks to Dennis Rehmer, Alan Rudolewicz and several other residents who called to let us know about this misfire.

Attention Residents:

With the upcoming nor’easter, residents are kindly asked to clear leaves, debris, and other materials from catch basins located near their properties.

Keeping catch basins clear will help ensure proper stormwater drainage and reduce the risk of street flooding during the storm.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in helping our community prepare for the upcoming weather event.
