Sunday Storm Update
Despite high winds that are forecasted to increase again later today as the storm heads toward Long Island Sound, damage in Bristol has been minimal to date. A tree across the road on Vera last night, and a dangerous limb hanging across primary wires on Ambler being the most serious.
Lewis Tree Service, working in conjunction with Eversource CT is on scene in the Hoppers-Birge Pond Nature Preserve neighborhood now to address the limb (pictured above). Power will be shut off in this neighborhood while the limb is roped and maneuvered away from the power lines before it's cut. Estimated time without power - anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours depending on when the crews are in position. Please tag people you know who live in this area.
According to Emergency Management Director Harley Graime, there are 27 households without power due to limbs on wires. Eversource CT has been working through that list with Bristol (CT) Public Works.
Forecast for tonight remains of concern for more fallen trees/branches due to wind gusts and now saturated and loosened ground. According to our various storm updates:
"Windy conditions are forecasted to persist throughout the day with peak wind gusts of 40-50 mph in western and central areas. Winds are not expected to taper until later tonight into Monday. Continued moderate to heavy rainfall could bring an additional 1-1.5" of rainfall through Monday afternoon."
