Giving Back to the Wild Places We Serve
As a wilderness SAR team, we spend a lot of time in the outdoors, and we believe in being good stewards of the land we work in.
So on Saturday, our K9s got the day off while their handlers traded search harnesses for trash bags for a different kind of public service. In the pouring rain, we launched our boat to pick up trash along the shores of the Occoquan Reservoir in support of Friends of the Occoquan. We hauled out everything from tires to bottles to plastic chairs, and SO. MUCH. STYROFOAM.
A quick ask: Whenever you're out enjoying the outdoors, please practice Leave No Trace. Pack out what you pack in, secure your gear so nothing blows or washes away, and leave places better than you found them. Litter is a danger to wildlife and takes away from the natural beauty we all enjoy.
