This past Sunday your Broad Brook firefighters joined by Warehouse Point Fire Department members conducted live fire training at the Glastonbury Fire Training Facility. This training is conducted at a minimum of once a year and is the most realistic training a firefighter can get to the real thing. A huge Thank You to the Glastonbury FD for graciously allowing use to utilize there burn facility. A special shout out to the BBFD chef’s. We are grateful to have members that step up to keep our firefighters well fed and hydrated during extended events.

At 1555 hrs Tolland County Dispatch Center received a call for reported structure fire at 25 Folkstone Rd. in the Broad Brook section of East Windsor CT. At 1556 hrs the Broad Brook Fire Dept. along with automatic aid from Warehouse Point, South Windsor, Enfield Fire, Hazardville Fire, Ellington Fire and Somers Fire departments and East Windsor Ambulance were dispatched to the above address. The first due engine company arrived in five minutes after dispatch and fire crews encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from a two-story condo on the first floor with three other attached units having moderate to heavy smoke conditions. Crews made an aggressive attack and knocked down the main body of fire on the 1st floor within five minutes of being on scene. Additional fire was subsequently located in the basement of the affected condo unit as well and was extinguished. Primary and secondary searches of the fire unit and the adjacent condos were negative. Fire crews checked for fire extension in the adjacent condo units that came up negative. All three adjacent units had smoke and were vented for high levels of CO. Fire was put under control 31 minutes after arrival of the first companies arriving on scene. Fire crews continued to check for extension and hit hot spots in the fire unit. Mutual aid companies where released approx. an hour after the initial alarm. Local fire marshals where on and requested the state fire marshals to respond. Local and State fire marshal units along with East Windsor police detectives are investigating the cause of the fire, which is undetermined at this time. No injuries were reported to any civilians, animals or fire personnel. Fire Marshals office will remain on scene through the evening to investigate.
