Different week, same energy💪

Recently, the Freedom Eagles took a Diagnostic Army Fitness Test to determine our individual fitness levels and performance. Since then, our PTs have been focused on resistance/strength and endurance training for our next AFT and future training events. While we build our bodies, we will also build routines to ensure we maintain our integrity and capabilities.

On Wednesday we had some cadets help to teach the Boy Scouts how to do Land Navigation. This included how to read a map and map features, how to plot points, get a distance and direction with the points, how to use a compass, and how to get a pace count. Everyone had fun while we were able to teach them new skills that they could use in the future.

Yesterday, the cadets did the Mogadishu mile in memorial of the 19 soldiers who were killed in Operation Gothic Serpent. This includes a 5K run in full kit to symbolize the distance that the soldiers had to run during the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993 because all of the armored vehicles were filled with the wounded and fallen. These memorial events are so that we never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

🍂DAY 3 | FALL FTX🪖

The final day of our Field Training Exercise consisted of a nice ruck back to our tactical command post, where contracting ceremonies were held out! Two of our very own freedom eagles contracted on 27 September 2026: CDT Ryan and CDT Waldon!

CDT Ryan, an MS2, is a Criminal Justice major. He has been an outstanding cadet in our program, always seeking out more army doctrine to enhance his knowledge and tactics. We couldn’t be more proud of you Matt Ryan!

CDT Waldon, an MS2, is studying Forensic Science. She has been building her confidence and physical fitness over the past year, continuing her training outside of our normal hours. We are excited to see the cadet, and soon officer that you will become!

Congratulations to both of our Freedom Eagles who have decided to commit to their service for our nation. Congratulations to all our cadets who have completed the fall FTX. It is always a memorable experience, consisting of training, learning, and fun! Fight to win🦅

🍂DAY 2 | FALL FTX 🪖

Our cadets stepped into a full day of STX lanes, putting their knowledge, leadership, communication, and tactical skills to the test.

Throughout the day, cadets worked through realistic tactical scenarios that required them to plan, communicate, react, and execute as a team. Leaders were challenged to make decisions under pressure while their teams worked together to accomplish the mission.

From the first movement to the final lane, every challenge was an opportunity to learn, improve, and build confidence in the field. Day 2 pushed our cadets outside their comfort zones and helped our MS3s get ready for camp.

🍂 FALL FTX | DAY 1 🪖

Cadets kicked off Fall FTX at Fort Drum, NY with a high-energy Warrior Skills Round Robin, putting essential Soldier skills to the test.

Throughout the day, cadets rotated through stations covering face paint, EPW procedures, radios, weapons training, and knot tying. Each station challenged cadets to work as a team, communicate under pressure, and execute the fundamentals.

To close out the day, our MS3s dove into OPORDs for Day 2, preparing for the next mission and putting their planning and leadership skills into action. They then finished with setting up patrol bases for their platoons!

Our color guard team was very busy last week with the SUNY Brockport Naturalization Ceremony AND the Homecoming Football Game!

Color guard is a specialized, disciplined detachment of soldiers responsible for protecting and carrying the national and organizational flags (the "colors") during official ceremonies, parades, and civic events. These events will allow soldiers to represent our program for the university and gain Order of Merit List points toward their branch of choice upon commissioning.

Love to see you all shine Freedom Eagles 🤩🦅

Our Cadets (CDTs Grissom, Miller, Rendon, Porto) and Assistant Professor of Military Science, CPT Rivera, were out representing SUNY Brockport Army ROTC at the 18th Annual Badger Memorial Golf Tournament, honoring the memory of 2002 alumnus COT Robert Badger, who tragically passed in 2005.

Today, our MS2 and MS3 cadets took on a 3-mile release ruck, putting their endurance, teamwork, and leadership skills to the test. At the same time, our MS1 cadets completed their first 2-mile formation ruck, learning the fundamentals of moving as a team, maintaining formation, and building confidence together.

Great work by all of our cadets! Every ruck is another step toward becoming stronger, more disciplined, and better leaders!
