On October 16th, 2026 at approximately 2:00am, Officers with the Brodhead Police Department located a vehicle that had collided with a legally parked squad car in the 1000 block of W 3rd Avenue. Through investigation, it was determined the vehicle had been stolen from another location within the City of Brodhead prior to the collision occurring. After multiple days of follow up conducted by several members of the Brodhead Police Department, probable cause was established to charge Emily Marcks of Portage, WI with the following:

- Take and Drive a Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent
- Criminal Damage to Property
- Bail Jumping

The Brodhead Police Department was assisted by the Green County Sheriff’s Office who documented the squad involved traffic crash. We also want to thank the citizens and businesses of Brodhead who assisted Officers with providing surveillance footage related to the incident. The assistance that Officers receive from residents in cases like these is crucial to investigations and overall public safety.

National Move Over Day in Wisconsin is Saturday, October 17, 2026. Over the past five years, 128 people in Wisconsin were injured and six killed while inside or near a stopped vehicle along the road. Wisconsin's Move Over Law (Wis. Stat. § 346.072), requires drivers traveling on a road with two or more lanes in the same direction to move out of the lane closest to stopped law enforcement vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, tow trucks, utility or highway maintenance vehicles with their warning lights activated. If unable to safely move over, or along single lane roadways, vehicle operators must slow down. Let's work together to save lives!
