I need book recommendations for CLOSED DOOR/G RATED LANGUAGE Romance/Mystery Books because I’m so proud to say my 9 year old baby girl held her Mama accountable about her book genre after church last night!!!
🤪🤣😆😂😬🤦🏻♀️
Ok storytime, how fitting right?! Last night was Josie’s first Bible Drill night, she obviously was spiritually enlightened because the first thing she spits out of her mouth in the car is…
“Mama, you need to stop reading those books you tell me not to read on your Kindle because I may see bad words… Jesus isn’t okay with that!”
🙊🫣😳
The first thing that came to mind was, she has done told her Bible Drill teacher her Mama reads dirty books! 🤪😬😂🫣
But after I got over the initial shock, I just thought..
“Wow God, you have been on me about this for sometime now. Out of the mouth of my BABE you have confirmed that request.. I receive that!! LOL
I love her so much for it. It could have easily made me feel embarrassed, defensive, and misunderstood but instead her call from The Lord to make sure she held me accountable in that sin I’ve been carrying made me so proud. 🥲 I could have easily flipped the script and said, “oh that’s just what Mama likes to read!” Or, I could have made myself out to be the victim because she exposed my book preference possibly to her teacher. 🤣😆🤦🏻♀️
Accountability is hard, it exposes what’s underneath. It’s especially hard for adults who lack
it, maybe because what’s lying on top of that sin is pride, the need to justify, the unwillingness to call it what it really is.
Maybe we don’t want to have to be really honest with ourselves in the moment, and do the hard work of sifting through the reasons why this confrontation has upset us so. Sometimes when we’re held accountable, we tend to rewrite the story or flip the script to our favor. But that’s not true accountability nor alignment.
In that moment, I told my baby girl,
“Baby, you are so right. Jesus doesn’t want me reading those books. Thank you so much for confronting me on that and being my shining example!”
I can’t tell you how in awe I am of her.
I’ve always made sure to teach her how important true accountability is, to take ownership for behaviors/actions so it’s only fitting that she sees her Mama putting words to action.
This will be an adjustment for me. And before you even feel judged, please know I won’t judge the covers of your books.. this is a personal decision but if it inspires you to do the same, I encourage you to walk along this new journey with me too! 😬
Now give me those book recommendations!!!
