Last week, Zanewood Community School scholars engaged in rigorous, hands-on science integration that brought classroom concepts to life.

Fourth Grade: Investigating Geodes:
In our 4th-grade classrooms, students transitioned from theory to practice as they explored the formation of geodes. By examining these geological wonders, scholars applied their knowledge of mineralogy and Earth’s natural processes to understand how hidden crystal structures are formed over time.

Fifth Grade: Field Study with Three Rivers Park District:
Our 5th-grade scholars participated in essential field work in collaboration with the Three Rivers Park District. This partnership allowed students to step outside the classroom and analyze local food chains within their natural habitats.

Through direct observation and data collection, scholars investigated the vital roles of:

Producers: Capturing energy from the sun.

Consumers: Maintaining the balance of the local ecosystem.

Decomposers: Recycling nutrients back into the soil.

We are incredibly proud of the curiosity and academic rigor demonstrated by our students. Special thanks to the Three Rivers naturalists and our dedicated teaching staff for facilitating these high-impact learning experiences.

Our Zanewood kindergartners had the best day exploring the Three Rivers Mississippi Gateway Regional Park. They took full advantage of the gorgeous weather by trekking on snowshoes and spotting local wildlife on a nature hike.

Nothing beats seeing these young explorers in action! 🐾
