It was so great to join the mayor yesterday as he announced his new executive order cutting the ridiculous number of fines and fees small businesses have to navigate.

Scroll to see some of the bills I recently introduced in the State legislature!
To be clear, I have an expansive list of bills I’ve been carrying that I plan to advocate for this year that are related to prison reform, immigration, affordability, housing, reproductive rights, and more. I’ll be sure to share updates about the progress of those bills as well.
The post is specifically about new legislation of mine.

This morning, I released a first-of-its-kind report that found New York State Prisons disregard the law, and regularly abuse and neglect incarcerated individuals.
Just in the last 13 months, correction officers murdered two, young Black men named Robert Brooks and Messiah Nantwi. Our prisons are built on a system of brutality, and we must continue our fight for reform.

In July 2016 NYPD Officer Wayne Isaacs killed Delrawn Small, an unarmed Black father. A decade later, he is absurdly claiming he was not a cop when he murdered Mr. Small in order to avoid consequences. For decades, we have watched a familiar and devastating pattern repeat itself: when an NYPD officer kills a New Yorker, the department delays, deflects and protects its own. Commissioner Tisch must stop denying grieving families justice to protect abusive cops.
