New York City Council Member Farah N. Louis issued the following statement in response to Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature advancing the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget:

"This budget reflects meaningful progress for working families across New York. The investments made in childcare, housing, and women's health address longstanding priorities at a time when affordability remains one of the most pressing challenges facing communities throughout New York City. I commend Governor Hochul and the State Legislature for their commitment to delivering real relief to the New Yorkers who need it most."

Today, Muslim communities across Brooklyn and around the world are celebrating Eid al-Adha, one of the holiest occasions in Islam. This sacred holiday commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s faith, devotion, and willingness to sacrifice in service to Allah, while reminding us all of the values of compassion, generosity, and caring for one another.

As families across District 45 gather in prayer and fellowship, I am inspired by the traditions of charity, reflection, and community that define this celebration. May this Eid bring peace, blessings, joy, and renewed faith to all who observe.

On behalf of my family and Council District 45, I wish everyone celebrating a blessed and joyful Eid al-Adha.

Eid Mubarak!

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication of those who gave their lives defending the freedoms and values that continue to shape our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we gather with loved ones and reflect on the meaning of this day, we also hold close the families, friends, and fellow service members who continue to carry the weight of that loss each day. Their strength and resilience deserve our deepest gratitude and continued support.

New York City remains a place shaped by the sacrifices of generations who believed in protecting democracy, liberty, and opportunity for all people. The best way we can honor those we have lost is by continuing to work toward a safer, stronger, and more just society worthy of their sacrifice.

May we always remember our fallen heroes with gratitude and reverence. Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Tonight, our neighbors in Brooklyn and around the world begin celebrating Shavuot, commemorating the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai more than 3,000 years ago.

May this holiday bring peace, joy, spiritual renewal, and meaningful time with loved ones. Wishing all who celebrate a beautiful and blessed Shavuot filled with sweet moments and lasting reflection.

Chag Shavuot Sameach!

Today and tomorrow, New York City is expected to experience extreme heat with temperatures climbing above 90 degrees. As we continue through this heat wave, I encourage all residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, limit prolonged outdoor exposure, and regularly check in on seniors, children, and neighbors who may be especially vulnerable to heat-related illness.

To help residents stay safe and cool, we have expanded our Cooling Center network across District 45 to include 9 locations throughout Flatbush, Midwood, Flatlands, and Marine Park. These sites will provide safe, air-conditioned spaces for residents seeking relief from the heat over the next several days.

Cooling Centers are available at library branches, older adult centers, and community facilities throughout the district. For additional Cooling Center locations across the city, visit finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenters. If you need assistance or have questions, please contact my office at (718) 629-2900 or email [email protected].

Please stay safe, stay cool, and continue looking out for one another during this extreme heat!
